So, just figured I'd look at the Jetta Sport Wagon TDI just for fun (burning time). Anyway, it's supposed to come with a 6 speed manual, but the tech specs show 5 speeds the and ratio difference between 4th and 5th is 0.01. That seems to make zero sense. Can anyone explain?

Perhaps. Their website is pretty awful (where is the build my own button?).

However, the final two ratio's look awfully close together. Might as well just make a 4 speed if they are correct.

2 speed axles have become a thing again. So, while you can't shift the axle independently like you can in a 5&2 speed in a medium or heavy duty truck from 40 years ago, you keep similar trans ratios, and then the axle shifts on its own. Why you wouldn't just make a 4, and have the axle switch...couldn't tell ya.

This is one of the reasons why if I actually bought a Toyobaru instead of the Mini, I would have bought the Subaru, no question.

I can't stand Southeast Toyota that much. Plus the Toyota dealers aren't that good around me. One wouldn't even let someone who drove up in a late-model BMW Z4 *sit* in a new FR-S.

So if it sounds like I have a pathological dislike of Toyota, it's because of Southeast Toyota.

That bit about the Z4 actually makes me laugh, because my girlfriend and I rolled up to a BMW dealership in a 12-year-old Taurus and they didn't give a shit if we sat in any of the cars in the dealership. The fact that they wouldn't even let you sit in an FR-S should really tell them something about how that dealership is ran.
