Yes you can pick out my car. This is basically when Doug allowed you to pick out his car and you made him get a Ferrari. So here is the deal I have $2000 it needs to run on regular gas and get at least 20-25 mpg minimum. So it is as simple as that. I will be reposting this every day to get the most suggestions. I don't have anything else to say so go nuts but keep within my restrictions.

Toyota MR2. A fun mid engined rwd car. You can find many out there, some in not so good shape, but in a well enough condition that you could probably fix them up. There are quite a few out there that are turbocharged, but i'm not sure how expensive those are. But these do get pretty good gas milage, and they can be drifted. There's a person at my school that has one of these, and we take the same road going home, and I see him drift and do donuts every so often if conditions are right.

so I'll go with what I know.

Cherokees are good & cheap sometimes, not so great on gas

Metros are for gas milage and some stuff. Its a DD, and work car. I took passenger seat out for easy access to get to all the junk in there. I've had it 7 years and put almost 120K miles on it. ( it's at 254k) it has some issues, but most everything I could fix myself. Good if you can handle the 55hp, and it'll cruise at 75 eventually. It gets a bad wrap, but great if you like cheap & honest cars.

If you like Saabs, you won't mind the maintenance costs on one of these. 1996 Audi A6 2.8 Quattro Avant. My mom had one, and they are awesome cars in every respect. Plus, they will get through anything a Wisconsin winter can throw at you. Ignore the window stocker, they're asking $1500, which is a good price. 180,000 miles isn't great, but it could be worse, especially since it is claimed to be mechanically good. And judging by your username, it's not that big of a deal for you if it does need work.

well for something like a $2000 e36, you will want to budget about $2500 in parts. For a $2000 miata, not so much.

Here's another vote for Saab C900. Why?

-Dependable - the B202 engine is known for going a million miles, or better.
-Economical - don't believe those commies at the EPA, you can get 34+ empeegees
-Ubiquitous - nearly a million built, Saab's all-time best seller, with the majority still on the road today. Most parts are fairly easy to source
-Quick - 2600 lbs and 175+ hp in turbo form.
-Fun - surprisingly nimble and controllable for a FWD car.
-Utilitarian - fit a fridge in the hatch

You cannot lose with a C900.

How about a Mercedes W124? You can get them in reasonable condition with between 120k-140k miles for under 2 grand, and you can chose from gas or diesel, RWD or AWD, and sedan, wagon, coupe or convertible (pretty much just sedan and wagon on your budget).
