Let's face it, the Porsche 924 really wasn't a great sports car. It was an okay car, but the fact that Porsche scrapped it for the much improved 944, shows the Stuttgart manufacturer needed to do something. Porsche is pretty well known these days for having a zillion version of each model and the odd "limited edition" car as well. That is what you see here. The 1977 Porsche 924 Martini Ross Edition truly is a limited edition model. It caught my eye because the livery was very familiar.
924.org explains the details of the special edition, known as the E19 option which signified the car as a Martini Rossi included:
Scarlet pile carpet
426 Special Model World Champ
404 Front and rear sway bars
432 Lateral stripes Martini
565 Leather steering wheel
568 Tinted windows and heated rear glass
So the only performance upgrade were the front and rear sway bars. According to the owner, his is a well sorted car he found at a dealer and chose it over, wait for it, a 90s Corvette ZR1. Apparently going fast really wasn't his biggest concern. These two cars could not possibly be more different in character, unless the choice was between a ZR1 and a 2CV.
The production run on this car was less than 3,000 examples, so it's fairly rare. It is a car of interest, but I doubt it'll be ringing up high numbers at Gooding & Co any time soon. Still, it's nice to see one so well sorted and cared for.
