he's super sold on an Acura mdx, got him to try a grand cherokee overland and he wasn't impressed with the interior.
Any opinions? He doesn't like the gmc Acadia either. German luxury is likely too expensive and he wants new .

So his budget is roughly $50k or less.
What does he think of the Q5?

The MDX is a damn fine car. Is he looking at FWD or AWD? The AWD model still uses the torque-vectoring SH-AWD system. And now that it's backed by a 6-speed auto, it's an awesome buy.

Why not a TSX wagon? :)
Tell him to drive the wagon!!!!!!

Has he looked at the equivalent Infiniti SUV? The MDX is a pretty damn good vehicle. Miles ahead of any Cheep Cherokee.

If he like the MDX and was not impressed by the GC Overland interior, than he is stuck on the 'Honda quality' bandwagon and out won't get him off. The Overland interior is show stopping.
The GC is twice the product, but I'll be shocked if you change his mind.

Look into the X3. Surprisingly cheap if you don't go FULLY loaded.

The MDX may be a little boring, but it is a really good vehicle. Very well made and excellent value. Only other cars I might suggest looking at are the VW Touareg or Infiniti QX60/QX70. Oh, and the Volvo XC70/XC90.

I felt the same way honestly.they are different cars. I haven't sat in the mdx yet but it looks similar to the gc.
That said I don't think the mdx is a bad car , and they thought it was more comfortable, which I can believe. Gc is a truck still , mdx is a soccer mom crossover

Underneath, the new GC is the Mercedes ML. We just bought a Durango (nee Mercedes GL) Very happy. Great drive. Beautiful interior. Not built like a 'Jeep' and that's a really good thing.
I did not drive the new MDX, but I drove the Pilot. What a disappointment. Zero soul. Built exactly to the standard of 'we bought a Honda! Oh those are good cars.'
MDX may be a different animal but the new Durango was light years ahead.

yeah, until I drive both I can't say exactly but aesthetically they are equal and capability and style I would pick the gc certainly. Durango isn't his style, and we thought it looked useless to get into those third row seats.
He will likely end up with the mdx, not so bad. I just wish they didn't but stereotypical middle aged people boring cars .
Also he's hooked that the mdx is said to be safest in its class.
