Customer complains of strong fuel smell and fumes in the cabin? "Clean" the car by dousing the entire area with volatile chemical solvents to mask the gasoline smell. Send them on their way. When the cleaning solvent smell dissipates a week later and the gas smell is noticeable once more, they might come back and complain again but you can tell them it is a different problem this time.

Lol. When I complained of a fuel leak....we learned it was actually fuel additive leaking from my passenger side door pocket. Because idiot. At least it was free help.

Like the cruiser with the clunk when turning left we had at the shop I was at. Mechanics couldn't fix it. A detailer did. He was cleaning it and pulled the half empty whiskey bottle out from under the seat....Clunk Gone!

I had a client with a low-mileage R107 SL who had a rattle in the convertible top around corners that had always been there & finally drove them crazy. It was maddening to find. We finally disassembled the top frame and found a marble INSIDE one of the bows. I have no idea how it got there. Herman the German having a bad day on the line?
It's amazing how many times we've found noises to be user-created. Cans of Fix-A-Flat rolling around in spare tire wells, water bottles, golf balls, kids toys, the list is endless.

I knew a mechanic who, if angered, would drop a nut and som bolts into very specific lication so every time you turned on the heater/ac they would rattle. And no one else could find it.
