I'm trying to talk my friend into turning his 928 into a rallycross car since its a piece of shit anyways. The car runs/stops/handles awesome but the interior is junk. Sounds like a perfect race car project to me!
Tell me this is a great idea...
5.0L DOHC with 288hp, 4 piston brakes front and rear, full coilover suspension stock. The only problem is the car is an auto but at a minimum a button could be wired in to kick the car into first gear when ever is necessary, since the only way to do it stock is to go WOT.

This is a great idea.
Drop in a manual and a bigger V8.

There was a 944 rally car at STPR last year and this year.
Absolutely it's a great idea.

I have seen more 924/944's doing this but the 928 is such an expensive finicky car not many people race them.
Which makes it all the better.

Exactly. Don't drive in other people's tracks, make your own. The more unique, the better!

Wow thats amazing. The Porsche 928 would probably make a very good rally car. I mean it definitely wouldn't look weird out there with the other cars. It just have that rough vibe to it that makes it perfect for being a rally car. See what I mean? http://www.cariseasy.com/image-model/16… .html

They make thoroughly excellent race cars. If you leave the engine alone and start from a solid car they are pretty much bulletproof. A couple race in hillclimbs and circuit racing here in Italy, they're never going to win any outright trophies, but they're plenty of fun and except for being a bit heavy on tyres (they do weigh a lot, even stripped out), they aren't much in terms of upkeep. Oh and they sound glorious through open pipes. Go forth!
A historic racing 928, in the wild.

Well of course it is a great idea! The World needs more Porsche rally cars, and since I've always liked the 928 I'd love to see some rally conversions. The film you linked is just great.

Picture taken at the RMCH (historic Monte Carlo rally) this winter. 944:s are incredibly popular for this, being one of the cheapest and most competent cars that are eligible. Disclaimer: not my car.

Tell your friend I have a complete and great interior on a 928 that doesn't run. It's also a 5spd weissach.

Too bad it's not round and doesn't have wide-enough fenders.
