Situational awareness FTW. I'm not saying that you should be aware of a rogue tire coming your way, but as you say, if other drivers suddenly slow down there's usually a reason for it.

It's decisions like these that keep me out of accidents. People don't just slam on their brakes suddenly for no reason.
