I'd definitely autox an LS430 now that I know you can get max poerformance summer tires and coilovers for it.
Once I can afford another car I'm definitely doing this! Even if my next car probably won't be an LS430, but my next car will be a hoot. My current car does need a bit of work to be trackworthy and by the time I'd be able to do it I'll just get another car.
I do like the Matrix/Vibe 2ZZ, but they're not quite "crossoverish" enough to "look like they don't belong" on an autox.
So, does anyone on oppo autox something that "doesn't belong" there? And yeah, I know that there's no such thing as a car that doesn't belong on the track, but you know what I mean! I know someone here has that bench seat Impala. Anyone else though?

Someone was driving a Kia Optima at the Autocross I went to last weekend. I didn't get a chance to watch it run but it made it in one piece.

Is there a list of cars prohibited from autocross? I've been told the 1st gen xB is, and I suspect that a fair number of SUVs would also be banned.

WHAT?
Wait, do you mean that the people who organize the events actually officially prohibit them, or do you just mean "who the fuck would autox an xB?" I hope it's the latter.
They shouldn't ban the first-gen xB because it's just so awesome. I *might* support a ban on the 2g xB though because it's fugly and stupid.
I really hope they don't actually ban certain cars. Any good condition passenger car should be allowed (pretty much anything required to have EPA fuel economy numbers, anything that's factored into CAFE, etc).

Awesome! I know he tracks his E36 M3, but I didn't know about the 7. You don't NEED to fit that thing into a parking space because it's a BMW!!!!!!! haha

I thought I read something about it being a rollover risk. For some SUVs, I could see that. For the xB, somewhat less so.

But the xB is grounded to the ground yo :p

I was actually just on the scca autocross handbook website and there is a chart that calculates rollover risk. No trucks and most SUVs. Certain tires and stock car combos can be dangerous also. I remember at an autocross 10 years ago, a stock focus zx3 with something sticky tires go through a slalom with a hard turn at the end go one way then the other and pop right onto its roof. Rolled right over. Barely even touched the side it flipped on. the LS would be fun, it just weighs a lot and wouldn't be terribly competitive. Maybe if that guy that autocrosses the grand marquis was there...
