Hi Oppo. I was thinking, as well as many other opponauts, of a Cycling offshoot of Jalopnik. It'll be like FoxtrotAlpha, but with bikes and not military stuff.
Through my months as browsing and occasionally commenting on Oppo, I've seen some cycling stuff around. And most of the cycling online community, are probably pretty stagnant (and biased at time). I bet roadbikereview won't appreciate someone talking about their new fixie. I bet the guys on the fixie forums won't appreciate someone talking about their new Pinarello Dogma. And so on. This is a place to fill in a niche in the community and further continue/improve cycling culture. Cyclists aren't certainly perfect (at least on stop signs, and I'm a fault on that for sure), but this can also be a place where it isn't run by a bunch of nazi like admins you find on other forums. Oppo is like that with cars. Everyone, from people who like stance, to the SLS owners, and the Camry lovers, are united together in a open forum where we discuss about cars and life. Let riders new and old unite, 4 wheels good but 2 is also very good!
(note: I am a cyclist, and I am a flawed rider. I occasionally run stop signs but keep my shitdickery to a minimum)
Now for some cycling porn that is totally SFW

I definitely support this motion
![]() 04/25/2014 at 00:37 |

I second this notion!

I am more of a bmx guy but I agree a cyclist kinja blog would be cool. Here is my Sunday Model C that never gets ridden.
![]() 04/25/2014 at 01:25 |

That's a really nice BMX though.

Are you an admin of some sort? I always thought so...
![]() 04/25/2014 at 03:21 |
|
Nope, I've been on here longer than most people but I am but a lowly anime loving, bicycle riding, absolutely normal jalop. Also if I was we would of had a casual anime kinja a long time ago.

Lovely.
![]() 04/25/2014 at 05:45 |

Yes I second it as well.

I don't bike. But I totally support this idea.

My Surly's support this proposal.
![]() 04/25/2014 at 08:22 |

This would be great :-)
![]() 04/25/2014 at 08:35 |

I support this too!

I would visit the shit out of Bikealop ... or JalopCycle ... or Pedalop or whatever.
![]() 04/25/2014 at 08:46 |
|
And also post on it like a fool.

Liiiittle tiny HeadShock.

How can I be a part of it. Hardigree has written a some articles cycling related so I would think he might be also interested in helping.

Wow, never noticed that. Is that also a lefty?
![]() 04/25/2014 at 11:15 |

I'd probably be down to contribute to this on a semi-regular basis. I'm actually riding a 200k this weekend—I could post a short writeup.
Also, since I hate to post without a picture, here's my Pista. It's a fun bike, but I learned that the whole "brakeless track bike on the street" thing isn't for me.
![]() 04/25/2014 at 13:58 |

Nope ... that would be the precursor to the Lefty. Internally those ran needle bearings along a square shaft just like a Lefty. Take that mechanism, move it to the left and extend the travel and boom you have a Lefty. The Headshok design was limited due to its placement and was eventually fazed out. Vintage Cannondale - Headshok
When I worked at a bike shop out in Cali I always hit our Cannondale rep with tons of questions because I love their products. He gave me the story above for how the Lefty came to be (condensed of course). I own two Lefty's and believe in the technology - such a precise fork!

I build bikes for a living and Jalop is my daily lunchtime escape. I wholeheartedly endorse this notion.
![]() 04/25/2014 at 16:01 |

You can actually get Headshok on the Cannondale Bad boy, as well as a rigid lefty fork. I would love a lefty on a bike. But there is a company that allows you to install Lefty on other bikes..
![]() 04/25/2014 at 16:43 |
|
Holy crap you can! I thought it was just a rigid lefty. Word up!
Yeah Project 321 ... which I might invest in the Steerer Tube as putting a Lefty headset together with only two hands is damn near impossible.
![]() 04/25/2014 at 19:36 |

I took a look at their stand at Sea Otter, and there was a trek with a lefty fork. Sick.

Hah, I see Slonie saw this. I'm not against it. Let me talk it over with the folks.

Thanks, Hardibro!
![]() 04/27/2014 at 19:47 |

I also highly support this motion. There are so many things we can do! Clearing house of cycling racing news, ordinary bike reviews, shopping advice, etc. Let there be Velopnik!
![]() 04/27/2014 at 21:11 |
|
YES! PLEASE!!!
![]() 04/27/2014 at 21:13 |
|
Nice! How's it going though?
![]() 04/27/2014 at 21:18 |
|
I would relish the opportunity to troll such a forum if it did indeed exist.
![]() 04/27/2014 at 21:20 |
|
don't be the devil's advocate....we don't have anti car activists on oppo.
![]() 04/27/2014 at 21:22 |
|
But relax, most of us (including me) are not extremo passive-aggressive opponauts.
![]() 04/27/2014 at 21:25 |
|
I'm not anti cyclist. I've ridden XC for the last two decades, raced series and 24 hour races etc but I, for reasons I mostly don't understand myself despise 9 out of 10 roadies. (or maybe not them, just their attitudes)
![]() 04/27/2014 at 21:27 |
|
I am relaxed. I actually don't mind you much since you admit to running stop signs.
![]() 04/27/2014 at 22:02 |
|
well, thanks! I've always wondered, how is like doing a 24 hr race?
![]() 04/27/2014 at 22:15 |
|
The first 6 hours are fun but the rest is like a bad acid trip.

![]() 04/27/2014 at 22:25 |

I'll toss in an "aye" if you're needing one...
Bikelopnik, then? Cyclopnik, perhaps?
![]() 04/27/2014 at 22:26 |
|
That's not for a simple Opponaut like me to decide
![]() 04/27/2014 at 22:28 |
|
It's a Rivendell bike...they are...weird, like most frame builders
![]() 04/27/2014 at 22:32 |
|
that's so overpriced and stock as hell. And pease lower that seat. I miss my Sunday wave.. I have the prototype somewhere in my basement... The original frame Sunday started with not the new stuff
![]() 04/27/2014 at 23:04 |
|
Nice......
![]() 04/27/2014 at 23:05 |

Also, Brent Rose from Gizmodo will like this. He's done a lot of articles on health and bikes.
![]() 04/28/2014 at 02:00 |

I'm good with this.
![]() 04/28/2014 at 08:22 |

Sign me up for this please! I wholeheartedly support this notion.
![]() 04/28/2014 at 14:20 |

I will raise my cycling gloved hand up in support.
![]() 04/28/2014 at 14:44 |

My shoulders are sore from getting back on a BMX for the first time in 12 years. I would be happy if this happened.
![]() 04/28/2014 at 16:48 |

I'm Slonie and I support this message. I think Velopnik has a nice ring to it, too. Or Veloppo, if it's gotta be part of Opposite Lock. Either way, I hope this is something that happens and would love to contribute.
![]() 04/28/2014 at 17:08 |

I also think a fellow with CyclistCarCoexist as a username probably has the right kind of attitude... If mine were more descriptive, it might be something like UsedToRaceCarsButRacingBikesWasCheaperButNotByAsMuchAsYouThink.
![]() 04/28/2014 at 18:31 |

Aww, thanks! and kinda true about the racing bikes..
![]() 04/29/2014 at 16:03 |

I vote for Pedalopnik. (I am a former bike shop employee who's swimming more than riding these days. However, there are more bikes in my family than there are people, so I'm very protective of cyclists.)
![]() 05/01/2014 at 00:43 |
|
exactly the opposite for the swimming and biking part for me..
![]() 05/01/2014 at 16:21 |
|
I still watch the big races and occasionally check VeloNews but swimming's always been my true love, sports-wise. Mainly b/c I don't feel myself sweating, I generally don't have to worry about getting mowed down and there's no uphill (unless you count the back half of a 200 fly or 400 IM).
P.S. My road bike still lives in my bedroom. (I'm not a savage.)

My brother kept the 1980s celeste green Bianchi road bike he bought while working at a bike shop in HS. Just completely refurbished it in the last year or so. Spent a lot of nights tracking down vintage Campy parts on e-Bay.

Heard this on NPR this morning, would be good for the bike subblog: http://www.npr.org/blogs/parallel…

:( it never happened...
