I mean yea its nice, and as big an Alfa fan I am, $48,500 is, well, WAY WAY WAY overpriced.

not if it is in perfect concours condition. You can spend more than that on aircooled vws or toyota land cruisers these days.
EDIT: now that the link has been added, I don't think that price is out of the realm of reason. It isn't a bargain, but it isn't CP.

Yeah if it truly is in perfect condition then it might not be a bad buy. You would probably spend what, at least $22K for a car that still needs to be restored?
![]() 04/24/2014 at 18:35 |

Hmmm, if it's as minty as it looks then possibly. These things have got expensive recently, although this is on the higher end of tolerable.
I'd expect a very low mileage pristine car or an utter street monster that someone's plowed a lot of money into Alfaholics parts on. Tha would be NP-ish.

I've seen showroom fresh examples going for $30,000. This one does not appear to be anything overly special.

not for a basket case, but for a driver that needs work, yes.

how long ago? We have a pretty serious classic car price bubble building these days.
![]() 04/24/2014 at 18:41 |

This is the, " See honey? It's a terrible time to sell my car right now!" price.
![]() 04/24/2014 at 18:42 |

Really? Where? I want one!
![]() 04/24/2014 at 18:43 |

Came here to say this. They've become so out of reach within these last few months.
*runs away crying*
![]() 04/24/2014 at 18:43 |

All the classics are going up so fast!!
Near-classics are the way to go. Only way to get in before prices go insane.
Like maybe an E34 M5?
![]() 04/24/2014 at 18:46 |

Within the past 2 months. I just found an okay condition GTV 1750 for $18,000
![]() 04/24/2014 at 18:47 |

I find them out in SoCal ALL the time. San Diego usually, and then San Fran ( I know thats Nor Cal) has a pretty good few circulating about.
![]() 04/24/2014 at 18:49 |

Very interesting.
Does this mean I can make money by buying them in CA and selling them to Opponauts on the East Coast?
That sounds like an awesome weekend job
![]() 04/24/2014 at 18:52 |
|
Yeah, exactly like an E34 M5.
![]() 04/24/2014 at 18:54 |

Apparently yes...
![]() 04/24/2014 at 19:02 |

there is a huge gulf in price between okay condition and fully restored. 18 is a good price for one in okay condition, but it takes a lot of loot to take an old car- particularly one as rare in this country as a non-spyder alfa- from okay condition to fully restored. The whole thing has to be mechanically repaired and restored, then completely disassembled, then painted, then reassembled.

If only we knew a real world economist who could write a thesis to your Dad about why it's smart for you to buy an E34 M4.
![]() 04/24/2014 at 19:04 |
|
I understand the process. Nothing here stands out as this car being anything exceptional, and at that, I have seen fully restored chassis of GTV 2000s go for $30 - $35 k.
![]() 04/24/2014 at 19:05 |

Maybe I should see what he says if I ask him about an E30 M3. I wonder what he'll say.
![]() 04/24/2014 at 19:07 |
|
Your Dad or a real world economist?
Surely your Dad would say no to an E30 M3. It's soooo expensive.
![]() 04/24/2014 at 19:08 |

you should have bought them, then. A quick glance around the various auto sales usual suspects indicates that the price of this car is in line with the current market.
![]() 04/24/2014 at 19:09 |

Yeah I just looked, they're way out of range now, no point in asking. But the E34 is so obtainable!

Wifey says "SELL IT"
Husband says $48,500.

It's attainable and one of your top 10 favorite cars!!
I really think you need to try hypnotizing him. Hire a hypnotist and tell him or her to put your Dad under a spell without him knowing.

Would have had I had the 30k ish to blow and and a place to keep it...
![]() 04/24/2014 at 19:14 |

I would if I could, I want that car so badly. I bet if one pops up for sale nearby (the one I showed you was a 3 and 1/2 hour flight away) I can convince him to at least go look at it. Maybe if he sees it he'll change his mind. (but I doubt it)
![]() 04/24/2014 at 19:16 |

Prices really are escalating insanely fast at the moment. I wrote about a land cruiser pickup recently that was a fair price in the current market at nearly 30 grand, but it would have been 5-10 grand less just 6 months ago.
![]() 04/24/2014 at 19:18 |

Now it's in fate's hands. If one pops up close by soon he might let you do it!

It just needs to show up! Raptor Jesus needs to come through for us. A Z3 or Z4 M coupe wouldn't be bad either.
![]() 04/24/2014 at 19:26 |
|
ALSO
A NICE CLOWNSHOE THAT ISN'T BEAT TO DEATH OR A Z4 M WOULD DO, GIVEN THAT BOTH ARE UNDER $25K
THANKS BMW GODS!!
![]() 04/24/2014 at 19:32 |

My dad and I were looking at a used Z4 M for around $24k with around 50k miles, and the main reason he didn't want me to get it was because it had two owners. I don't understand how it mattered that much, it's not like the car aged 5 years or added 30k miles just by being driven by a different person.
![]() 04/24/2014 at 19:35 |
|
OMG!
That is a steal!!
Who cares if it's had two owners?
That's like saying no to a supermodel who wants to be your girlfriend because she's slept with two people before.
I think we discovered why your dad really hates used cars. He thinks they are promiscuous and wants you to only have virgin cars!!
![]() 04/24/2014 at 19:38 |
|
Hahaha yep, that's gotta be it. My dad's even become hesitant about me getting a Fiesta ST because it comes with summer tires. I told him I'd just get a set of steelies and snow tires, but he thinks that's just too much of a hassle for some reason.
![]() 04/24/2014 at 19:46 |
|
LOLOL
Much hassle. Big effort.
It's not a big deal to get some steelies!
He just doesn't want you to be an enthusiast.
Hopefully he's not like this when you try to get his approval to propose to a girl. You might have to elope...
![]() 04/24/2014 at 19:48 |

Ugh, if I end up doing that, I'm coming straight to CA.

Car heaven!
![]() 04/24/2014 at 19:57 |

Exactly! And the weather is always nice! I wonder what my dad will say if I show him a $26k '06 M5 w/ 51k miles.
![]() 04/24/2014 at 20:08 |

I have a guess:
He will say "no" and look exactly like Grumpy Cat while saying it

LOL
Well this has been an interesting day. I did finally get my new room but there were issues at work so I had to stay on my laptop.
All I've had to eat today is coffee, some almonds and a fruit bar. And I'll I've done is work and use Oppo while waiting for replies to work emails. I'm in the Bahamas but it's like I'm at home!
Oh yeah I forgot to ask your earlier question - being in the future isn't really like being in the future. It still feels like being on Pacific time cause I have to deal with people there. It's finally 5:30PM Pacific so I can go find my friends and start drinking.
I hope they are somewhere in the hotel. Nobody has their phones on cause roaming charges. Not even T Mobile has their free international promo on this god forsaken country.
My friend should have just picked Hawaii... Then our phones would work I could have gone and seen the Magnum PI museum (if there is one).
![]() 04/24/2014 at 20:31 |

Why didn't they go to Hawaii? It's still in this awesome country, and you won't get robbed or murdered or anything. And it would be closer and cheaper (I assume). Wait.... that means it's also dark out where you are also!
![]() 04/24/2014 at 21:18 |
|
I don't know!! And I haven't left the room yet. I started drinking this super expensive rum I bought yesterday before venturing out. I need to get off my ass. It's past 9PM now. It's definitely already dark here. And kind of crappy.
But I'm glad I'm here. Now I know that I will ALWAYS GO TO HAWAII on my own vacations. Like you said it's part of our awesome country. It's safe and nice. It really is the best island paradise out there. If you meet your dream girl and want to go on vacation don't mess around - just book tickets to Maui!!
![]() 04/24/2014 at 21:20 |

I'll keep that in mind, even though it's REALLY far away from me.

It's far but it's awesome. Maui is the best island in the world.
And you can space out the trip. Go NY to LAX direct on Virgin America. Spend a couple days in So Cal and drive all my cars. Then fly direct to Hawaii and see what 1st World island hopping is like.

I know it's PERFECT. There are so many nice ones like that for sale in Europe, but very few in the US ever come up for sale.
