Taking a page out of the Chrysler Sebring playbook?
Oh shit, where'd it go?? Magic!

Something about irregular height triple-headrests, too...

They don't look very adjustable

One reason.
One reason only.
To make it less obvious that this is merely a face-lift of the existing 2014 Camry, with new lights and new bumpers.
Without that stupid, awkward C-pillar trim, the door shut line, the roofline, and the side window graphic would be unchanged from the existing 2014 Camry... and that just isn't as sleek looking as all of these new sedans with the longer side window graphics that make the cars look longer and lower.

Toyota did it to the 2nd gen Aristo/GS300 16 years ago. (Ignore the arrows)

"There's not enough legroom in the back of a Camry anyway"
"Oh shut up. Do the seats fit at least?"
"Maybe we can see if we fit in it and then talk about legroom"
"Oh, alright. What about headrests?"
"Oooh, you'd like to talk about headrests. No adjustment. Hmmph."
"My headrest's fine"
"Shut up. Maybe if we're in sort of a middle position on the seatback..."
"I want more legroom"
"All right, all right, we'll take out the front seat and drive the Camry anyway."
"Does it have to be the Camry?"
"We'll get a Sprinter van later."
*"Right!"*

I don't get all the hate for cheater panels. It's expensive to create a small DLO for the sake of style, and cheater panels are better than a vast expanse of metal. Besides, if any manufacturer decides to actually put a damn window in their C-Pillar, it needs to be an opera window. The world needs more opera windows.
