In a pinch, you can always use a floormat to clear snow off of a car. Doesn't work on ice, obviously.

Yeah.. The roads were clear so I did the smart thing, I took her down an empty stretch of road and let the wind clean her up!

You're not wrong. Even though NY requires it, I'm pretty close to getting rid of the plate. I spend most of my time in CT, so I can't see getting pulled over for it (often) being a problem. Although, with my luck I'll do it and rack up tickets fast.
