How does that make sense in any reality? A fucking travesty. To remove this stain from my ears I will be listening to Bleach at an unreasonable volume all day.

I heard it, it was heinous. Joan Jett as much as I love her bombed too. Did you hear the aftershow with J Mascis though?

Lorde has one hell of a voice, and she makes some incredibly good music in my opinion. But I agree they should've maybe picked someone else to front the band. I am listening to it right now, she isn't doing a bad job, but something doesn't seem right, somehow.
There have been Nirvana covers I've liked, but I imagine it's quite another challenge for it to sound "right" when fronting the original band.

Double post.

Hey, you got Dinosaur Jr. on my Nirvana!
That's pretty sweet!

I don't agree with anything you said.

Like Billy Corgan, Kurt Cobain has such a distinctive voice that it's hard to do a good cover without doing something completely different with the song.

You should at the very least agree with this:
"I agree they should've maybe picked someone else to front the band."
But I think this is a huge challenge to do if you are fronting the ORIGINAL band, I don't know if it could ever be right.

I just listened to J Mascis in the after show. It was pretty fucking good imo.

I tentatively agree with some of the things you said.

I agree. I've heard covers from people that significantly altered the song to their style of performing. The big difference being that they aren't fronting the original band, making the Lorde attempt more of a stand-in singer rather than a cover. Tori Amos and Sinead O'Conner have both covered Nirvana in their own style and have produced good music.

Wait, fronting? Like most of Nirvana got back together and Lorde is fronting... or covering?

Like I said, difficult but not impossible. Mascis is one of the few that can actually pull it off without a hitch.

They band played at the Rock and Roll hall of Fame induction and Lorde sang and so did Joan Jett. J Mascis sang with the band the ceremony.

I guess he almost joined the band a few times.

That would have been an interesting alternate history, with him taking over lead after Cobain's passing. It would mean no Foo Fighters, but it would have been interesting to see if the musical landscape of the '90s would have gone in a different direction had Nirvana been able to continue on.

My feelings wouldn't be hurt by a lack of Foo.

Too bad Dave can't sing and rock out as hard as he does on the drums (or maybe he can?). Pat Smear, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl as a trio would be awesome.

Makes sense to me; new angst teaming up with old angst.

I think kurt man just sang those songs in such a unique way that anyone else singing them just sounds too different to make it likeable.

I agree with you, however, I feel personally slighted by how badly Lorde and Joan Jett sounded. Obviously it would be possible to find someone that sounded much more like Kurt then either of them.
I still can't wrap my mind around Lorde doing it.

Yeah they were pretty bad. It seemed like they just memorized the words didnt know what the songs were about and decide the best tact would be to put very little emotion in it. I have to say I like Lorde and hers was better and made a bit more sense for her to sing that song.

Maybe I'd feel different about it if it was Lorde and her band covering Nirvana and not the guys plying with Lorde.
