And dashboard lights!
Sorry for the potato pics. I really like the gauges although they don't look that blue in these pictures.
Show us your lit up dash/gauges.

I have an embarrassing Service Engine Soon light (bad O2 heater wire) so no pics from me.

Not my car, but this is what it looks like:

I don't think I have a night shot, I can get one later
![]() 04/07/2014 at 10:45 |

Not a good enough excuse. Just put black tape over it. The potato pic won't show it anyway, right?
![]() 04/07/2014 at 10:47 |

I like all the buttons. I don't think I have seen one with buttons like that. Usually they're just the capacitive touch and touch screen ones. Is this an earlier model?

Yes! I love IP's at night. It's weird, I won't buy a car until I know how it lights up at night.
![]() 04/07/2014 at 10:50 |

Yeah the '10 through '12 SHO had this interior. I also prefer it over the newer ones ('13+). There's barely an honest button in the car, lol.
I like the ability to turn my screen off at night and still be able to access most functions.
![]() 04/07/2014 at 10:51 |

I really dig those tear drop shaped clusters.
![]() 04/07/2014 at 10:51 |
|
I should also add that, amazingly, they are actually intelligently layed out too! Everything is very intuitive.
![]() 04/07/2014 at 10:52 |

I wish OEM's would allow the screens to have an independent dimmer than that of the whole dash board. I like bright gauges but not necessarily bright screens at night.

This is a stock photo of my DD, 07 milan (05 pictured, same thing tho)
And best angle I have of the dash of the fun car, the 68 Mercury Montego MX

Hmm, I think I could futz with the settings enough to accomplish that, but I am not quite sure, haha.

This is the old car, but the new car is essentially identical, just pretend it has a higher redline..

This is the best I have

I've always really liked the Milan. I had a 12 Fusion for a time and loved it. The Merc was always better to me for some reason though. Dat Montego.
![]() 04/07/2014 at 10:56 |

Those bright green gauges the Ford's had/have are really great. Classic. That's a great Marauder you have there.
![]() 04/07/2014 at 10:57 |

The red is awesome. I first fell in love with both BMW's and Pontiac's for that reason.

Kinja won't let me reply to your other posts. Lame.
If I could dim the Cruze screen independently, I would. Also, high intensity electroluminescent gauges are my favorite.

Thanks! I agree, it looks rad. Great for your nighttime vision, too!

2013 Escape...........pretty blue is pretty.

Yessir.
![]() 04/07/2014 at 11:01 |

I never thought I'd be such a huge Mercury guy lol.
The Milan had all the options in base form of the high trim Fusions and at the same price as the base model Fusions (got one HELL of a used car deal lol) so there was no way I could turn down the Milan.
And, there's no need to justify or explain the Montego lol

I like the blue color Chevy uses on the buttons. My car actually looks a bit lame at night in the center because there's nothing . Just a big screen and 3 buttons. The dashboard looks awesome any time of day though.
![]() 04/07/2014 at 11:02 |

That really is the nicest blue I have ever seen in a car. I drove a 2.0T Escape not that long ago at night. Fast and fun. The gauges were my favorite. Simple but elegant.
![]() 04/07/2014 at 11:04 |

C6. looks exactly the same at night :)
![]() 04/07/2014 at 11:04 |

That's right. Arguably, that's what killed Mercury on the new side. They were a steal on the used end though.

I agree about the dash. I have always been impressed with the Sonic's material quality and overall build. I know it's hard plastics but it's some of the nicest hard plastics I have seen. Or touched. And touch them I do.

Sorry, there's a hand in the way.

Not my pic but this is what it looks like.
![]() 04/07/2014 at 11:17 |

Yeah, the feel of the dashboard is fine. Hard plastic but textured wheel. The plastic around the shifter/cupholders is the only stuff that feels particularly cheap, but you never touch or look at it so it's fine.
My only complaints are the door. The belt line is too narrow so it's uncomfortable to rest your arm on unless the window is open, and even then it's a sharp angle. So you move your elbow down the arm rest on the door - nope. Hard plastic. That should be padded, it is in the Fiesta. One of these days I'm going to pick up some foam and make a pad for it.

I don't have any of my BMW, and my wife took it to work this morning. As a result, enjoy my Montero
![]() 04/07/2014 at 11:21 |

Montero's were one of my favorite Mitsu's from that time. Also, your car is really clean!

Can't like the red enough!! It's so awesome!
![]() 04/07/2014 at 11:22 |

I always liked those gauges. Simple and easy to read.

Never apologize for driving. It's beautiful.

Kinja won't let me reply to your post below the expanded replies. Weird.
The padding on the armrest I think would have annoyed me enough not to buy that car. Sadly. A friend of mine just bought an RS (first manual for her) and she loves it.
![]() 04/07/2014 at 11:28 |

Yup - and the HUD is awesome too
![]() 04/07/2014 at 11:32 |

I feel like every car should have a HUD. Even at a basic level.
![]() 04/07/2014 at 11:40 |

It's what should have propelled Mercury forward! all the high trim options of the ford on the base mercury at almost the same cost? How did ford survive?!
And you know it's classy because it's got one of them fancy analog clocks.
![]() 04/07/2014 at 11:46 |
|
The crappy armrest in the middle I just leave out of the way, I honestly don't even notice not having one anymore. Lately the door armrest has started to bother me quite a bit, I think my elbow is just tired of being on a hard surface. All day at work my elbow rests on a hard desk, then I drive around and it rests on a hard armrest....
I think it'll be super easy to make a little pad and still have it look nice, it's just one of those things where I think about it in the morning, and then when I actually have time to go to the store and get materials I never think about it.

That's impressive. Much potato.
![]() 04/07/2014 at 12:44 |

That's hot. Also, plenty of fuel to go places.
![]() 04/07/2014 at 12:50 |

Was that so hard? It's beautiful. See, the idiot light is barely noticeable!
![]() 04/07/2014 at 12:52 |

Been there. Thankfully, if I remember correctly, the armrest is rather square and should be fairly easy to fashion some sort of padded surface. How about taking a gel bike seat and doing something with that? Also, the inside armrest is fine if you're 9 feet tall. It just sits a touch too high. Needs to be adjustable.
![]() 04/07/2014 at 12:53 |

The analog clock makes all the difference in the world.
![]() 04/07/2014 at 13:02 |

daaaamn right!
it actually annoys me now that when I turn the key off in my wife's Jeep I lose the clock. In the Milan I turn off the key and my clock doesn't go anywhere.

thanks! I had heard of them a little here and there but we picked it up when we moved to South Dakota solely as a winter beater (BMW has no traction control, stability control or ABS...) but I've fallen in love with it. 7 seats, a fantastic 4WD system and I love the boxy looks which might explain why I love Troopers, Passports, etc.

LI was going to add pics but I can't edit so here's a few more

Wow. Man alive that is a lot of buttons!!!
![]() 04/07/2014 at 13:57 |

Troopers are the bees knees. I have an unhealthy addiction to those as well. For the same reason, I like the current gen Pilot (though I really don't want to).

Oooh and Pup too!
This is Odie. He isn't in my car because he tears it up.
![]() 04/07/2014 at 15:27 |

I don't think its all that many buttons... Definitely not a minimalist approach, but it's not overwhelming and it is actually very logically laid out.
![]() 04/07/2014 at 16:02 |
|
Well you would know if it's easy to use or not. I drive a car that has 1 button excluding the radio. If you include the radio it has 15.
![]() 04/08/2014 at 20:34 |

Very simple, so I added a PLX gauge. Later MINIs don't have a temperature gauge or anything fun like that, despite plenty of room for such things below the center speedometer in the illuminated LCD display that shows information I can already call up on the tach. Waste of space.

The daily after a long trip. Yes, 29:46 drive time on 83.97 gallons. The trip is obviously wrong as it turned over. That was about 1900 miles.
And the car that kind of doesn't like me as much and has an automatic.
