My friend, a local architect/historical preservationist/State-of-Indiana-enthusiast/politician is looking for a truck. His budget is "not more than $20k" and he would like something with a bench seat or "an extended cab at minimum." Box size didn't seem to matter to him, nor was 4x4 a priority. Probably looking at something from the Big Three here.
What's the best deal out there for something like that?

The Silverado/Sierra is built in Fort Wayne. Id recommend something built within the state.

can get a brand new strip show 4x2 F150 for something like 18 after rebates if you look hard enough

Trucks are hard, they hold their value so well they are tough to find with low miles for 20k. Can you give me a zip code to narrow my search?

Haha, yeah, probably could. But I think he'd rather get something used and have a few more amenities.

my Sport Trac had heated leather seats power everything (including rear window) and a sunroof. For some reason clients seemed to love it and frequently complemented it.

What are his needs, exactly? Is he building a house? Looking for a place to carry tools? Going to become an electrician? Tow rig? 5th wheel/RV? New, CPO or used?
It's hard to go wrong with a Silverado or F150 in Indiana. Bench seats are hard to find unless you are looking at '86 models... most have captain's seats with center armrest console things.

That was supposed to be "rear bench seat."

Ah, makes much more sense that way. Still, good to know the reasons he desires a pickup before recommending something. Given the architectural nature, the full size 1/2 ton is a good fit.

He just wants a truck because he liked the one he used to have. I don't think he "needs" one. Architects aren't the same as construction workers anyway; he'd be designing more than hauling. But that's beside the point since he's running for office at the moment anyway. So basically he just wants something all-purpose that can haul his two kids when needed, and haul large objects/light loads.

Colorado. It worked for Scott Brown!
