Thanks to the folks who chimed in on my Hot Wheels question. To be honest, I was not 100% sure if I was getting into this hobby, but something happened today.

On my way home from work earlier, I was in Target to buy some stuff (exercise mat and some granola bars). I was walking casually towards the shelves to pick up my stuff when I happened on the toys section. So I took a detour and checked the Hot Wheels section. I did not initially see anything interesting, then I found these.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I think this one, was the true gem that convinced me to jump into this hobby.

Kinja'd!!!

Not really British Racing Green, I think, but close enough.

Again, thanks for the info dump guys, and I'll be looking forward to joining in the Hot Wheels discussion.

I have that same M3, it was the first Hot Wheel I'd bought in forever that didn't have any sort of missed placed decal or badge.

To be honest, I was a little disappointed looking at the Hot Wheels website, since apparently they like repeating the same cars, albeit in different shades. So I guess I'll go with one of the suggestions to collect only the cars that I wanted.

I actually skipped on a Lamborghini Estoque only because I was not convinced with the build quality of the car (some panel gaps, chipped paint, etc). Hopefully I'll find the same thing in another store in a better condition.

I bought an R34 Skyline one time that, I kid you not, has the Nissan decal almost on the bumper rather than the place on the truck made for it. And not 3 days after I got it, the wing fell off.

Yeesh. I'm actually going to make a conscious effort to avoid cars with decals and such, opting for the simple color schemes instead. And to be as exacting in inspecting the cars in the packaging as possible.

But for less than a dollar, I think this is a pretty good hobby. I kind of get that excitement that collectors feel when they step in a store and make a beeline for the toy section, hoping to find that one car that they are hoping for.

I have a tub of over 1,000 Hot Wheels just sitting in the basement. I really need to look through it to see what's in there.

Yeah, that's the rush I get every Tuesday night when I'm hunting for hotwheels lol.

And like you said, I do grab double or triples of everything while standing there to scrutinize the paint jobs. I have lots with the crazy graphics on them and I have to say, 7/10 they are in the right places. The only thing they can't seem to get right on ANY car are the marker lights - they are always of the mark.

I also like to detail them when I get the chance. You can check some of them out here:

Good question. I had to do a little digging, but apparently this is Hot Wheels' version of a Brazilian car .

I was just at Target yesterday to get a Hot Wheels car for my 3-year old. I noticed the Estoque, and I was also unimpressed with the quality of that particular model. Proportions were off, wheels weren't sized well, it just looked cheap. I did see the M3, Hurst Wagon, and Chevelle SS there too. He chose some fantasy car, though.
