I used to use NBCNews (formerly MSNBC), despite the liberal bias, because they at least let me customize it with categories of news I want as well as my local news feed right on their main page. The new photo format is unbearable, though. It's like the same 6 photos all day long, sometimes all week. It's news for the illiterate.
I have a customized Yahoo page, but it's garbage, and I'm fairly sure Yahoo's content is aimed at children. It's all regurgitated A/P stuff with incomplete reporting at it's best .
I'm left with CNN now, which ain't great. It's ok as long as you avoid the clickbait headlines, ignore the comments, and don't click on any outside links.
Open to suggestions...
You're correct to notice I didn't include FoxNews on the list. I just assume they report on Benghazi every day.

Haha, seriously. I saw the bird flipping truck driver here first. Then this morning it was on my local morning TV news, my local morning radio news, and on CNN.

BBC, I like world news. And perspective on America from the outside

They get news faster than anyone else that's for sure. That is, if all you care about is the automotive world, like me.

Reddit.com
You can custom tailor it to display your own interests, but if you want world or local news it is absolutely the best you'll get. Tons of news channels source info directly from reddit now, and they're consistently the best at featuring breaking news from other countries with little international access. Ukraine, Venezuela, etc.

I read BBC news, mainly on their mobile app though.

I grew up in the DC suburbs, and have a free online subscription to the Washington Post thanks to a now-expired college email address. Other general news sources are The Atlantic Wire, and BBC.
Most everything else I use RSS feeds through Feedly. That's all my tech, car, food & sneaker blogs.

I second this. Reddit really is the front page of the Internet...and the users are much more mature than the 4Chan folks...

Good call, excellent suggestion.
I've also heard good things about Al Jazeera to be honest, but I don't want to be drone attacked some day.

As an employee of a major national news organization, I really can't stand any of us/them as primary news sources - though that could be because I see everything in my email hours before we put a story on the website or on the air. I'm lucky to live in a big city where there are tons of small blogs for local stuff, but I mainly use a combination of Newser, NYTimes (paywall resets in incognito mode if you delete the garbage in the url after .html!), and AP/Reuters for national and world news. Some people find AP dry and boring but I appreciate that they still shoot straight. I also read Politico for political shit, but it's pretty inside-baseball over there.
Funny that you comment on NBC's website though - I know people who work there and they are SO PROUD of it. I agree with you, though.

4Chan is shit, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't learn a lot there. They are also a great source for breaking news, sad as that is.

Or anything that happens in NYC or Detroit. You can hear about that here first, too.

Stupidly, I mostly haven't been reading news via typical interwebs news outlets because a lot of them are blocked here at work. For old-guard media, the Beeb is more reliable than most on US events - and when not, doesn't carry the taint of typical fuckheaded AP writing. It's generally my choice, though occasionally taking bizarre approaches on stories or being slightly cockeyed.

That is also true. I happen to live in New York (not the city) so that applies to me somewhat.

So you're telling me I need to step into this decade?
Dang it, I was afraid of that. Thank you, though.

I don't have ONE... I have several.. less bias.. I use a few Norwegian ones.. those won't do you any good... but BBC and Al-Jazeera seem to be a good mix..

Yeah, it's not quite as easy to digest as broadcast news, but there are still videos and what not. You're going to do more reading, though.
No problem. I don't even pay for cable or watch local access news anymore, I get everything news-wise online.

The Economist, BBC, New Yorker, The Atlantic, CBC, 680 News and....The Daily Show.

Sad, but you're right. A lot of times 4Chan beats Reddit at the news and other stuff.

Instantaneous news: reddit
Liberal "news": Gawker
Conservative news aggregation: Drudge Report
Safe easy-going news: New York Times
Wild outrageous "news": Infowars
More videos than actual news: LiveLeak
Tries to be libertarian but seems more like conservative-libertarian news: BenSwann.com
And of course Jalopnik and Oppo.

WaPo and Drudge. Occasionally WaTimes as well.

But how are we supposed to have flame wars in the comment section if we don't have politically biased headlines and content?!?!
Actually, never mind. People will find a way regardless.

I prefer reading. The videos won't even play for me at work.
Not that I would ever browse news at work! (Actually I don't think they care. There are local news links right on our intranet work site. Hurray for productivity!)

Oh we'll find a way... we will :) hehe

I get most of my news from CNBC, Bloomberg, Fox News, CNN, and local affiliates. If I want two sides of the same story , I'll go to NBCNews and HuffPo as well.
I try and steer clear of the political news, as I've found that pretty much any site is going to have some kind of bias. Read the facts, ignore the narrative.

I use Msn, even though I don't give a fuck about half of the unimportant news that ends up on the front page.
