We all know that "the ring" is the most awesome and coolest and most dudebroshit racetrack IN THE WOOOOORLD... Or is it? I've been to " Die grüne Hölle " a few times, and it IS a demanding track, it's not a track you go flat out at, not the first time, not the second, heck, not even the twentieth time.. I don't give a FUCK if you've done ten thosuand laps on your XbobPS5 on the ring.. You KNOW NOTHING Jon Snow..
So what's my point here? Well, I guess it's something like this; Even if you're a jalopibro/Opponaut, that does not mean you're the best driver out there, so if you ever come to "the ring" please follow the rules.

If you end up in the area you should visit "the ring".. but I'd say you should just drive as you'd do on any other road, don't try to set laptimes :)

That movie, and that scene.. seriously one of the most scary things I've EVER seen...

Well I'm no European, so any trip would be in a rental car, and I'm sure the rental agency is going to want it back...further it's not likely to be much of a performer, either, so there's no point pushing it anyway :P. I have no intention of pushing it, but at the same time I don't think I'd drive as if it was any other road...it isn't any other road. If I go I'll drive it as a track, but as an unfamiliar, dangerous, not-to-be-taken-lightly track :)

That's the way to do it :)

I was there a few years ago and treated it like driving a one-way back-country road with no cops. Way too many corners, other cars/bikes, and not much run-off means you can't treat it like a "real" race track. At least... not on the "open" days.

Ever watch The Grudge ? It was funny until my buddy who was twitching and freaking out for all the scary parts left the room. Then the rest of us started to shit our pants too.

I hit it up when I picked up my car this past November.

Been there, done it, would go back in half a heartbeat. We ran it in a rented E61 BMW 525d Touring (automatic) and it was outstanding once we got a little rhythm. My buddy - whose name the car was under - is now banned worldwide from Sixt, but whatever.
I have six total laps, and they were 4 years ago. I will watch pretty much any and every 'Ring video I come across. I move around in my chair, reliving the turns and suspension compression points of the track. I remember my commentary to my buddy as I followed a Porsche 911 into the grass through Adenauer Forst ("Drive your line, not the line of the car in front of you... Shit."). While I've never done heroin, I have to believe the withdrawals are similar.
Can I go back? Please? I promise to behave.

I've been there three times now. Took a 2008 M5 twice and a 996 (2004 if I remember right?) GT3 RS [which was a rental from RSR]. Fun track. Quickest lap was 7:38 in the beetle. The M5 was running about 8:20-8:30 at first, but after the Dinan work I was able to get down to the 8:00 mark.
