I don't normally rant on here but I'm just over the top annoyed by it.
Article that is making me lose it:
http://jalopnik.com/how-did-this-w…
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
"High Rate of Speed"
All cops use it. Every news article that involves a crash while the vehicle is going fast is going to say that.
SHUT THE HELL UP FP FOOLS!
You don't have to make 50+ posts about it.
SHUT.
UP.
For god's sake the only "highlights" post is about it.
Have a rage burnout for your trouble (courtesy of those crazy upside down bastards in Australia)

I almost never hear you bitch around here. Good job

I really try not to.
This is just so obnoxious.
If it was one guy or it happened every once in a while.... I just don't get why people have to post the same "what's rate of speed?!" over and over and over again

You're annoyed that cops say this, or you're annoyed that other people are annoyed that cops say this? As an engineer it bothers me to no end when idiots say things they don't understand when trying to sound smart. The only thing worse is when the idiots listening accept the ignorance and agree it does make them sound smart and start parroting it themselves. If people keep pointing out how stupid it is, maybe the idiots will stop saying it.

They won't stop saying it. The cops don't give a shit what some troll on the FP of Jalopnik has to say about their jargon.
I know it's wrong. There's no way to correct them. It's how they are taught to speak at the Academy. It's not changing anytime soon.
I'm more annoyed that in every single crash article on the front page idiots have to point out how it's wrong. Do they really think the Fairfield Conn. police are serious Jalopnik readers? More over, do they think the Fairfield Police give a shit what some guys on here say about their lack of understanding?
Your two options I'll call them "A" and "B" you gave me for what I'm annoyed with are:
A- Annoyed that cops say this
B- Annoyed that other people are annoyed that cops say this
My actual answer:
C- Annoyed that people keep losing their minds to point out that the cops are incorrect, we ALL know what he meant, is it necessary to make all of the comments about it?!

I'm not suggesting the author of the quote will necessarily see the comments and change his ways...but people are pointing out a common error, and lots of other people out there are serious Jalopnik readers. Call it grassroots education if you will. You're right, we don't need 1000 people yelling about a small mistake, but I'm still glad that somebody at least said something about it. I don't subscribe to your position that "we ALL know what he meant, why make a big deal" because this is how we dumb ourselves down. "Who cares if your official publication is rife with spelling and punctuation errors, not to mention factually incorrect? We knew what you meant! " - said no one ever. As the society continues to lower its standards people will continue to barely meet them.

That's fine but this is a commonly accepted term. This isn't being "misspelled". It is specifically how ALL police officers are trained to speak.
The only ones that ever concern themselves with it are Engineers and Car Nerds.
It's just obnoxious and it happens on every single car accident post.

Fair enough, but you'll find a lot of engineers and car nerds around here :)

Oh I know. I've been here quite a while.
And I'm a Car Nerd too, this WHOLE thing is just silly semantics really.
