NASCAR has a race in Phoenix then Las Vegas. A+ for Logic. Las Vegas then Bristol. Ok... Bristol then Auto Club in California? Then Martinsville VA???
I don't know what transport costs are but NASCAR is making 3 consecutive cross continent trips 3 weeks in a row. Would it not have made a lot more sense to go to Auto Club after Las Vegas and then to Bristol and Martinsville? The Auto Club and Vegas races are relatively close by. If I'm on vacation I might hit both races if they're on consecutive weekends instead of just 1 if they're split apart. Who is in charge of these decisions and why haven't they been fired?

It doesn't work that way they have to go back to the race shop wherever that may be between races anyway. They use different cars etc for each different track. Also all of the crew members go home for the week instead of constantly staying in hotels. This has been examined many times and does not save money for this very reason

Exactly! Most of them go back to NC every week. They have other trucks already in route to the next track by Tuesday, a lot of times before the trucks from Sundays race get back.

Not quite, they often drive half way back and meet with another rig, where things are loaded/unloaded for the following race. Often when the cars don't need to be changed out (for similar track styles) a much smaller vehicle brings components out instead of a full size rig.

I listened to this all hashed out and discussed with a crew chief on The nascar channel on Sirius satellite radio. It would not save the teams money and has been examined and discussed by Nascar and the teams extensively.

I've asked a couple teams about this in passing. When they are away from base for a while, such as the West Coast swings, the rig will drive to somewhere in the middle of the country (usually Texas) and rendezvous with another rig, where components and sometimes cars are swapped out.
In cases where races are close to home, or they can pass by the shop before needing to leave for the next track, the rig will go to the shop and reload there. Regardless of which option is done, crew typically flies home for a couple days then to the next track.

So essentially as I said it wouldn't matter how close the races were most likely a new cars supplies etc is going to be heading to the new location anyway even if they meet up somewhere along the way and then the others head back to the shop. Also the majority of the crew go home (except the transporters drivers etc them back to the new location.
