I pull into traffic behind some new-ish civic, and I noticed the fuel door is open, and the gas cap is totally just hanging out the side.

Pretty much like this: (except in a civic)

Kinja'd!!!

I think to myself "what kind of moron forgets that"...I don't pay it no mind as I stop pretty close to it at a traffic light. I notice that the traffic opposed to us has advanced green, so or side will go soon. (light cycle memorization...check!).

Then who gets out of the car in front, but grandma to close her fuel filler door. Sure as shit, as soon as she gets out...our light goes green. The guy in the explorer beside me also doesn't go...I guess cause she's got her door open but he easily coulda gone without hitting her.

Anyways I just start up a bit to let her know "hey the light is green yo!!" but I don't honk cause that's not nice. She did look pretty old.

PSA: If your fuel door is open it is not necessary you close it in the middle of the road. Find a parking lot for that nonsense. It wasn't even raining, so if drive with it open a short distance, nothing at all would happen.

drive with an open gas cap too long and you get a check engine light though

Well, I am not advocating it, but the time between doing this at a top light and pulling over out of the way at the plaza after said stoplight isn't going to make or break it.

I see your side entirely, I can't stand when people dick around at lights, especially if they get out of their car.

If I were you I woulda blown the horn....

If it had been someone a bit younger I would just laid on it. There's no excuse for this nonsense, I just didn't want to kill her. Also...horn sounds like a mad goose. Still waiting on being able to walk and stuff before the train horn.

Laying on the train horn would have been amazing in this situation..

Haha, the train horn might have give her a heart attack. Lol.

I generally start with a light tap, and then move up in length until the full minute.

I did jerk the car a bit closer to her in plain view (I was directly behind) so she could see I wanted to move on. A tap would not have been bad.

Yeah, getting a bit closer usually does the trick if the driver isn't texting or something. If that doesn't work. Then be "That Guy" and stick the high beams on.

My car beeps at me when it's cold out, but not when I drive home with gas cap open. Suffice to say I've gotten home and failed to realize it was open until the next day.

Probably not the greatest for my gas/engine.
