So I went on two test drives today. First was a 2014 XV Crosstrek and the second was a 2010 Jetta. In short I was surprised by the XV and I hated the Jetta. But afterwards I drove my pos Taurus for several hours and noticed how annoying it's several flaws are, the Jetta looks amazing in comparison.

I don't like the Jetta much either, but I sure like it better than anything Toyota makes in this segment. I drove a fleet stripper rental Jetta from Kingston to Toronto - a six hour highway drive - and grew to tolerate it. Heated seats, a six-speed tiptronic not only to keep you entertained but a must on this car, the slushbox is very lazy. Seats are better than most if not cars in this price range. Stereo was on the good side of craptastic. The steering is vague but tighter than the previous gen Corolla.

Some say this gen Jetta is bland and dated but it's still a pretty sharp looking car. I still sometimes mistake it for the Passat from certain angles and in certain lights.

Still, I'd never buy one, ugh.

If you liked that Subie, why not go for an Imprezza?

That's what I initially went to test drive but I'm liking the looks of the Crosstrek. It'll probably end with me buying a generation or two old Impreza hatchback though. And the sti parts catalog is more attractive than the options list on anything new.
