tht is also true. another thing you can try is getting smaller wheels and tires for when u have to do towing. same effect, but cheaper

trouble is, I will want both where I'm going, and I don't feel like hauling around another set of tires and wheels (add in another $600 for wheels)

well, it only gets me back to what would be an adjusted 4.30 anyway, I would need to go smaller than it wise to get the equiv of 4.56 and I could use the extra power at this elevation anyway. Don't get me wrong, I've though about it, it just doesn't make sense all things considered.

Nitro gears, ~$800-900 in parts including the axle install kit (seals bearings and shims) 6 hours shop labor at ~150 is 900, you wont find much cheaper shop labor that's any good.

You can't use a Yukon gear and install kit? And around me $1000-1200 out the door is the going rate.

Yukon is just as much as nitro, its front and rear (full time 4wd) so I don't think less than $1600 is going to be happening anywhere

ok keep in mind I am insane and some time my brain misses a shift but when it lands it is good..... so what you want to do is go on craigslist and look for a cheap scout or Silverado from the 1970's buy it and designate that as your camper towing only vehicle and problem solved they go for $1000-$5000

Do it, but shop around for cheaper parts. You might even be able to find a set of axles with that ratio already installed for less, and that is a lot cheaper to put in.
Regearing can sit your RPMs at the right speed for highway driving. If you can get the right engine speed, you'll save some of that money back in fuel economy.
Plus, it puts less stress on your drivetrain.

If I had non-locking diffs that might be the case, but any factory e-locker diffs are gobbled right up.
