Some of you may be familiar with my !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! where I take photos of various diecast models that survived my childhood. Today, I took pictures of two new models. They are both the 1987 Toyota Pickup — one in standard form and the other from the "Cool Classics" line.

Kinja'd!!!

The Cool Classics model is on the left.

Kinja'd!!!

The standard version features the typical modern, shiny plastic grill.

Kinja'd!!!

The Classics model has a duller, diecast metal grill. Also, note the detailing on the hood.

Kinja'd!!!

Standard model has parts bin Hot Wheels rims, Classics model features slightly less typical rims. (Also note "Toyota" on the door.)

Kinja'd!!!

From behind, neither feature much impressive detailing.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Again you can tell the Classics model by its less shiny metal undercarriage, while the standard is typical modern plastic. (The Classics model was produced in Thailand, the standard in Malaysia)

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

The standard model cost $0.95 at Big Lots. I found the Cool Classics version at O'Reilly's for $4.49. Is the Cool Classics version worth 4 times as much? In my opinion, yes, although I am slightly disappointed it doesn't have opening doors, hood or tailgate for that premium. The Cool Classics line has very awesome paint and feels more like an actual diecast model, whereas the standard issue is more in line with current Hot Wheels, including a reliance on modern, more plastic heavy parts.

Let me know what you think!

I really like the orange one! $4.49 seems a bit steep though.

O'Reilly's is the most expensive mainstream place to sell Hot Wheels that I've found. ($1.69 for standard models.) That's probably one of the reasons you will occasionally find cars there that have been thoroughly sold out from Wal-Marts and Targets.

Nope, they both came without any accessories.

I really like hot wheels but I already collect comics, so I can't pick up another hobby, haha. However, I love my Toyota truck and that hot wheels is a real looker, but for nearly 5 bucks, I don't think I'll buy one. Maybe I can find one at Walmart or Target.

I'm digging up my childhood bit by bit, I'll see if I can find some modern doubles.
