Kinja'd!!!

I was putting speakers in my BRAND NEW Mazda 2 with a friend last night, and now my passenger door is stuck locked. I believe the rod that connects the lock to the lock on the interior handle is disconnected now. The door panel can't be taken off without opening the door which can't be done. There also is no physical key unlock on the outside of the door, and there is not a big enough gap when I roll the window down to try and look down inside.

Only way I see fixing it now is cutting a hole in the door panel which I don't want to do because I have only had the car for a week. I am pretty sure we did open the door after it was put back together though, so it must not have happened right away. Any ideas?

Pay someone to come jimmy the lock.

If there is no evidence you opened the door panel, take it to the dealer and claim it just sotpped.

Ahh, the consequences of modifying. How i know you so well...

So the lock is disconnected.

Can't do something like this?

And he'll say those aftermarket speakers came from?

Hell, they might not even notice. Go for it.

It doesn't have the stock speaker, so that is a give away, along with broken pop clips. I was thinking about saying it worked after I had put it back together and seeing if they will do it under warranty, which really isn't a lie.

I might try in the morning, but I don't want to scratch the glass or anything.

I'd do it if that meant I could open the door...

Go that route then.

Call them and see what they say.

When I worked at the dealer we overlooked everything like that... lol

Yup. I got all the modifying bugs out of my system. Even if the work is done by absolute pros, I'm at risk of seeeeeriously screwing up my ride.

If it requires undoing any fastener, it's not worth doing.

Do you have a shop manual? Or is one available online? If you had a diagram of the internals of the door, you might be able to find a way to get to the latch mechanism and pop the door so you can get the inside panel off and fix it.

Did you consider removing the speaker and reaching up to undo the lock from there?

That's good to hear, haha.

You have to take the door panel off to get to the speaker.

I've done this plenty of times to a bunch of cars, and this is the first time anything like this happened. My friend was working on that side of the car, so I think I will be doing everything myself from now on.

Good call. Still there's a risk, I guess.
