This is why I go to the FP: to get these insightful, priceless technical highlights.

Pure show cars have always pissed me off. Pretty much no matter what.

What a hilariously stupid thing to be upset over.

What's wrong with it?
Let the man do what he wants. I'm assuming you are the same person who's against same sex marriage as well?
I've said this in front of other "car guys" face before, don't call your self a "car" guy if you can't respect other forms of automotive culture.
They shut the fuck up after you say that.

Personally, I go for the elitism and hive mind mentality.
I really like seeing dudes get upset over the stupidest of shit. Like, just mad bananas incensed over shit any normal human being wouldn't bat an eye at. To the point where you suspect that the person might be suffering from a mild bit of Aspergers as he all-caps blasts the comments section with irrelevant facts.
It's great. Car enthusiasts are great.
Really fun to be around.

When you grow up, maybe you'll understand the difference between idiocy and culture.
And to avoid any misunderstanding, no... you cannot put your thingie in my butthole.

Typical.

Enlighten me on how sarcasm plays into this?
![]() 03/22/2014 at 22:27 |

I'm hoping that you're being sarcastic about telling people that they are probably homophobes because they think a car trend is dumb.
Because that is some of the stupidest crap I've ever heard.

It was the Chevy badge.
^ See how easy it is?
Okay, maybe that part went too far. But i still stand by the rest of it.

to a lot of people, having a gas guzzling v8 engine is idiocy. you talk about growing up...in my eyes part of growing up is learning to respect points of view different than yours. cars are about passion...if certain people express that passion differently that's fine.

It's such a quick car and now he can't even drive it! It wouldn't piss me off so much if it was a lancer, but no, it's an Evo.

I hate stance. Cool if you like it, but i hate it.

Wheel/body color combo is hideous. The Colgate bead locks and wheel studs are just icing on the cake.

Allow me to have a friendly discussion with you.
I, for one, dislike Miatas. Nothing personal, but I'm using this as an example. I have a close friend with a limited edition Miata, and I jokingly chide him every time we get together. I dislike stance cars, overly lifted trucks (anything over 3" is silly and pointless in real world applications), donks, Priui, station wagons, and Toyobarus. I like V8 muscle cars, exotics, most trucks, power sedans, and performance EVs/Hybrids.
Why do I dislike some things, and like others? Personal preference. I can point out flaws of cars I dislike. It's my right to, just as you are free to do the same. I don't have to respect a fad that I hate, as it doesn't infringe on someone else's rights. It also doesn't make me any less of an auto enthusiast to have preferences.
We all have our own personal tastes. Openly disliking things outside of those tastes doesn't make any of us bad people.

A click of the star even though you threw my car under the bus in your post.
I get why people don't like my car. I get why people don't like stance.
I don't get why people like stance.

Hey man, that's part of being human. I'm pretty sure you'd be lying if you told me that nothing stupid ever pissed you off.

You can respect something and still not like it.
Lots of work went into that car. I respect that. someone worked hard on it. I still hate it, because it takes something that did things i liked and turned it into something that can no longer do those things.
I dont have anything against the person who made it. But if you ask me if i like it, i'd say "no, not at all"

thank you for wanting to have a friendly discussion. people here sometimes get so butthurt. you make some good points. I would never drive a stance'd car (can you even?) and don't like them. but I found it harsh to call it idiocy. I think that makes it too black and white. you not liking what someone does to their car is normal and expected, but I think to call them idiots is hypocritical. you say you don't have to respect a fad you hate, and you are correct, but in a community such as oppo with so many different people with different opinions I think respect goes a long way. I don't really dig stance, but I respect it, because its someone who has a vision for their car and makes it their own and to me that's what this site is about.

I hate stance, but I have to at least respect this guy because I can't imagine how hard it must have been to get the quarter panel to fall in between the tire and rim.

Does the following image elicit any sort of emotional response? Because like the evo it's someone ruining something I like and like the evo it pisses me off. Like "dang, what a jerk" pissed off for at least one or so seconds. But I really really don't think some photograph of an evo is capable of ruining anyone's day. And actually, truth be told it's elicits some pretty fun arguing/opinions which I like talking about.

what a very random comparison. "You don't like shitty cars so you must hate gay marriage!" Well, since you support stance culture you must support pedophiles. How fucking dare you, sir.

No. Especially not that picture. It's a car. It's meant to be enjoyed. It's not there so that geeks can stare at it behind glass.

There's respectable culture, and there's ripping your radiator off from a tiny pebble in the road.
People who've stanced their cars had told me what a huge mistake they'd made, that the ride is unbearable and dangerous to the car in every conceivable way.
In essence, if your car is only a few thousand atoms above the tarmac, then you're an idiot.

It's a car. It's meant to be enjoyed. It's not there so that geeks can stare at it behind glass.
But...but...isn't that my argument against show cars in the first place?

I love it. I'm not a fan of "stance". I am however a fan of "different" and what Harold did here, was different.
I am also a fan of Evo's in general and can respect even most of the "stanced" Evo community. Honestly, I don't think they look that bad dropped, fitments a little awkward (but when done properly, like here it looks alright), and let's be honest here. This thing isn't totally "stanced". That is hardly "camber", and what angle has been added, has been done tastefully so. My two sense.
![]() 03/23/2014 at 14:25 |

For the owner of the Ferrari (I'm assuming), yes. If you derive enjoyment just by simply looking at it, that's your own business.

I am a car guy in every sense of the word. I can understand almost everything that someone does to a car. Stretching tires and stance are two things which I will NEVER support, appreciate, tolerate or understand. Whomever this owner is has successfully created a dangers street car without any of the benefits of a dangerous street car. I'd love a car that was so dangerous it could kill me at any time due to crazy power or edge of the world handling.
Almost dying because you've stretched your tires to within 1/16" of their life and have stanced your car so that every speed bump has the chance to turn your oil pan into a busted ass piece of metal or plastic isn't cool.
There is nothing positive to state regarding the car noted above. Nor with the Evo posted today as Wallpaper of the Day.

"Tastefully done" that rear fender, cutting the tire like it's a slice of salami?... please, do me the favor of disappearing into the darkness you came from!
![]() 03/23/2014 at 20:55 |

You've totally missed what I was saying.. Also, when you actually look at it, it's not hitting the tire so far as I can tell. Just as well that type of thing is normally taken into consideration before flushing, so as to keep from destroying your tire faster than you already are.
![]() 03/23/2014 at 23:27 |

Do you even drive, bro?
![]() 03/23/2014 at 23:46 |

You must be used to severely crippled cars to think there's anything tasteful or functional about this one. The camber is so extreme the wheels are visibly crooked, and the tires are so undersized you can see the valley of the wheels, with the wheel rims completely separated from the tires. Just thinking about the suspension dynamics is painful.
![]() 03/24/2014 at 12:06 |

Would you let someone operate a stove with a leaky gas valve because he "liked the smell"? No?
Stretching a tire to this degree makes it substantially more dangerous. Fact. There's a place where customization ends and safety begins. This is past that point.

Ever since my 18 years... I started with a car I had to double de-clutch and that was eight cars ago.... if this is enough for you. The only time I drove a car whose tire was scratching the fender, was that time I had to go back home after having been t-boned, and it was not pleasant at all.

This is the farthest from extreme camber I think I've ever seen on a stanced vehicle. Up next to the Kawashima Celica. This Evo looks normal. ( http://noriyaro.com/2014/01/yes-we… )
That's one of the smallest valleys I've yet to see in a properly stanced vehicle.
What the hell is a "wheel rim"?
![]() 03/25/2014 at 00:38 |

The outer edge of the wheel, which instead of being protected by the tire, isn't even touching it.

...and you just look like a mentally challenged.
