I just washed my car and noticed this! This sucks the car is only 7 months old with 10000km's(6250 miles). I went online and found out that many people are having this issue(only on LUX package black wheels) and that ford will replace the wheels no problem, but the replacement wheels keep peeling as well. Should I get the wheels powder coated on my own expense or just keep replacing wheels? I don't want to have to go to the dealer every 4 months to get new wheels.

Get them powder coated, then send ford the bill.

Can you ask them for a different set of wheels? Silver or whatever else there is or something?

that's what I would like to do. we will see what they say. I would prefer gloss back to the black chrome look anyway.

But I like black and paid extra for it. I would rather spend my own money to have the wheels black than to switch for silver wheels.

Then ask them to pay for the powder coat. It's worth the shot, and it'll probably be easier on the wallet for the company than buying new wheels every four months.

I agree. we will see what happens

Get new ones, and ask if you can keep the old ones. They might not care and let you keep them (sort of unlikely but worth a shot), and then you can powder coat the old ones., and keep the new ones the way they are. And if the replacements peel, then go get them powder coated.

Be cautious. I had a problem similar on my Mazda when they were Ford controlled. They replaced every rim 3 times. The last time I was told no more replacements. I went in litteraly the day my warranty ran out and made a stink in front of potential buyers and they replaced them all one last time.
They told me it was how/what I used to clean them and were refusing to replace cast rims (wheels, centres whatever you anal tyre people). You could end up fighting this with ford instead of the dealership. Keep all records relating and they usually cave.
FWIW they were right. I stopped using the brand of wheel cleaner (industrial grade shit) after the second set went bad. It shouldn't have been causing the issue but...

Damn, What could be causing it? Road salt, Funky wheel cleaner?

Possibly try to switch around products for cleaning wheels.

Hmm, maybe check the brake calipers for any sort of fluid leakage? My friend's custom Mustang had a leaking rear passenger caliper and it slowly ate away at his black-chrome finish wheels with similar results.

Can they cut you a check instead for aftermarket wheels? They should also mount and balance your tires on them for you.

it's all the wheels, not just one.

I never used any cleaner in it other than car wash soap and water.

Ideally I wish they would just pay for powder coat. Have you ever looked for 5X108 wheels? they are RARE.

yeah I have read that some guys get them replaced every 3 months as they keep peeling. one of the good things is that Ford normally has a 1 year warranty on replacement parts so in theory even if the car warranty is up the wheels should still be covered(for a year from last replacement). But I'm positive they would try to argue it.

Then that's just stupid that it's peeled, they need to step up their game.

Geeze that's bad...once every year was vad enough for me. It would have been every 6 months if it was as bad as this shows.

I've had the car for just under 7 months so every 6 months is quite realistic.

Does it snow where you live? Maybe that could be the salt on the streets?

Does it snow? yes lots. I'm in Northern Alberta so we pretty much get the worst winters but we also don't use salt so salt is not the problem. The problem seems to only affect early 2013 models with black wheels. I'm guessing it was a bad batch from the factory as I'm not the only one who had that issue.
