An interesting opportunity has just presented itself. Someone I am close friends with has a friend selling a 1987 Accord hatch with a 5 speed. It has 190K miles and a few dings. He wants $1000 for it and is local. Car runs great still. NPOCP (NOT ACTUAL CAR ABOVE)

Carb'd?

Those things are a vacuum line nightmare, and they have quirks I'm sure....probably a lot like the CRX where there are miles of vacuum line, if you hart to close to the intake the car will pick up on it and adjust as needed.

They are a Honda, and will run forever maintained or not. Look for rot, oil leaks, and that the electronics are good. If the car has been taken care of and looked after you should have no issues.

I had a 96 Accord with 300+k on it, and it ran like a top, the engine and trans out lasted the body.....

That is the biggest issue I have read on Google... being born in 1998 I forgot about carburetors. It seems like a decent issue with them. That alone is kind of scaring me. It is just a cool car

Not to steer you away from the car, but I used to work at a shop that was a Carb specialist.....one of these rolled in with a carb issue caused by a vaccum line and it took weeks.....

On the other side, take care of it, and that car will treat you right.

You can even swap in something newer like a D16y7 (the Single Cam Vtec) or something make it unique, do something batshit crazy, or do what I'm doing, learn about Carbs, work with them, jump head first into and learn.

It will make you all the more valuable should you want to do automotive things, cause cars with carbs are still out there, they are rare, but so are people who can work on them,.

Buy it!! And put any fuel injected Honda motor in and it will run forever ...until it rusts to pieces. I've always like those Accord hatches.

My mom bought an 85 accord hatch brand new. The only real problem was the automatic transmission that died at 330,000kms (205,000 miles). We had an 88 with an auto that did the same. Good car otherwise.

If you get it and it really has no rust and decide you want something more modern I'll trade you a manual 2002 VW Golf 2.0 :)
