"The worm has to taste good to the fish, not the fisherman." - Bernd Osterloh, head of VW works council on not meeting their targets on the American market
I take it as a sign that they realized that their idea of decontented US-only models was a bad one, as far as ideas go???? No more Camry-fighting US Passat and Jetta, but the real deal for you guys? Interpret this at at your own free will!
Found this in the ADAC newsletter. And yes, I am still a member despite the ongoing scandal. I got my membership fee's worth of towing and roadside assistance with various vehicles over the years. ;)
For those not familiar with the scandal: They made up some worthless "Car of the Year" like trophy and rigged the vote Soviet-style. It got so bad that the "winning" manufacturers returned their trophies. It also cast a dark shadow on other consumer advice they do. Tires, batteries, child seats? Winner paid for by Big Money?

so... more FWD cars with rear drum brakes even though you REALLY want a RWD halo or RWD sedans? Quote makes sense :]

The quote sounds like "yeah, we had no idea what the US market wants".

Yep, seems like a "trial and error" effort.

So that's why I can't catch any sharks with my Lindt chocolate bunny!
No really though, VW, you know what tastes good to American "fish"? RELIABILITY!!!!
If the 3rd-gen Camry looked like an Aztek, nobody would care.
VW's were bad enough before, and cheapening them just made it that much worse. They took out a bunch of shit that other cars in its class still had.
