Pictures courtesy of/stolen from MotorAuthority
Probable Details:
600hp from a detuned 6.2L LT4 (supercharged engine in the Z06)
*MIGHT* be a 4.5L twin turbo V8 (Elmiraj concept), but I doubt it. That'll likely debut in the LTS flagship sedan.
8spd auto also found in the Z06 AND 7spd manual from C7
you can see hood extractors like most other GM performance cars have adopted. Good for aero, good for cooling, so why not?

M5: "Looks like ze yankees have gone to wörk on ze new 'CTS-I want-so-bad-to-be-an-M5-but-can't'. Still using ze inferior caveman pusherods und not-so-superchargers, Swinehund?"
CTS-V: "Big talk coming from an even bigger car. Heard you're more Crown Vic than cutting edge performance car lately old friend. Maybe you should spend some more time at the 'ring and less time at the bratwurst bar, then when you run your mouth, you'd have something to back up all that talk."
M5: "I don't have to take zat kind uf talk from some ignorant american pig!"
CTS-V: "When the curtain falls friend, we'll see exactly what you will and will not take. Hope you'll be ready then. Because I will be."

i'll take the M5 all day long...what a beaut

That thing is going to absolutely rpp. I can't wait to see what they're able to wring out of the new platform. Weight will be heavier than a Z28, but way lighter than a ZL1 with way more power to boot.

You know how I know you're biased?
You choose the M5 over the CTS-V even before you have any comparative numbers.

Dat grill...
I WANT NUMBERS, DAMMIT!!

i am biased, and a little shallow...i love the design of M's and AMG's and RS/S's over most any comparable american, even if the american has better numbers

Why don't car makers realize that the swirly camo draws attention to the car? If they slapped on a regular CTS front bumper most people wouldn't notice the hood and exhaust. As soon as they put on the camo, everybody looks and takes a picture.

it does tend to throw off the sculpting and curves of body work in a picture

I'm thinking that grille is just there for prototype, looks too much like the Buick 'waterfall' grille. The V grille has always been a defining point on the cars, they don't want to give away what it will look like half a year before it's debut.

Right, but the likelihood of a picture being taken increases dramatically when it's applied.

Prototype pictures will get taken no matter what, might as well try and hide details as best you can.

I know I need glasses, but am I honestly seeing vents spread across the center of the hood? Please tell me I'm not -that- blind.

lol I said right at the top in my bullet points that there are extractors. and you can see them better in this picture

Wrong. The only people that take photos of camo'd cars are the auto-paparazzi. Take the camo off and you'll be handing it to them on a platter.

In the case of completely new models, yes, people will see it's some crazy new thing and take a picture. In this case, they could have removed most of the V add-ons (I'm sure the hood and some other pieces are necessary) to make it look like a regular CTS.

On the whole transmission thing, doesn't the Vette have a transaxle? I imagine it would be REALLY hard to adapt that 7spd.

Not sure on interchangeability specifics, but the 2nd gen CTS-V and C6 shared the TR-6060 6 speed. Basically any high horsepower American car has/had that tranny.
The new 7 speed being the TR-6070 http://www.gmhightechperformance.com/tech/transmiss…

Huh, well color me shocked.

Actually lot of photos are taken by "average" car folks and sold to various outlets. The auto-paparazzi can't be everywhere so they hang out at the 'Ring, Detroit, and a few other key locations where testing often occurs. In this case, it looks like it's right outside a GM facility, so I'd wager that a "professional" shot these.

indeed, will be mesh.

They changed the iconic logo, I wouldn't be surprised if they change the grille too. Especially is it is for functional reasons.

LOL ... de-tuned to 600 HP!
![]() 03/19/2014 at 20:35 |

lol well relatively speaking. down from 625hp 635lb-ft

I really doubt that is the grille they are going with. They may change the grille up from the conventional V mesh/diamond from the first and second gen CTS-V, and STS-V, but they wouldn't going the Buick route.
I think that is further camouflage, like when they threw a covered/black oval on the Escalade test mules to make it look like it was a Ford Oval.
The one shown is just way too Buick signature.

If you look very very closely, there is a V.......
