"Mr. Musk is a brilliant man, and Tesla is an innovative company. We can all respect that," says NJ CAR's Appleton. "But he doesn't get what it takes to do business in New Jersey."
I thought they would at least try to sound like they weren't totally bribing the shit out of the lawmakers to ban Tesla.

I must say no to you, and I'll give you my reasons. It's true, I have a lot of friends in politics, but they wouldn't be friendly very long if they knew my business was electrics instead of ordinary car dealers, which they regard as a - a harmless vice.

This sounds just like a memo from the mob. Or maybe a drug dealer, no one sells drugs on this corner without going through me......

You know, New Jersey is not a very big state. It occurs to me that their major cities are all a reasonable drive from a neighboring state that is not so committed to archaic, consumer-hostile vehicle sales models.

I totally read all the quotes in Jon Stewart's New Jersey voice

"He wants all the profits for himself."
LOL. Don't make me laugh. That's what a fucking dealership does.

Am I just not getting why Tesla can not just have company dealerships? Are dealerships not just some guy leasing the sign/name of a car company? Why are they banning the company from paying taxes. creating jobs, and bringing more money into these areas?
Can somebody fill me in on what I am missing?

Bribes, graft, payoffs. I think he well knows what it takes. Oh, and a few Twinkies for the governor.

It is fitting that you'd have self proclaimed Socialist do the Voice over for a "businessman" who depends on Govt to protect himself from the Free Market.

Gee, it turns out that a state whose flag prominently features a severed horse head is run by corrupt mobsters. Ric Romero has more on this late-breaking development at 11!
