My Vorshlag/D-Force track wheels!

Kinja'd!!!

These bad boys are 18x10" and weigh a whopping 19.9 lbs according to my bathroom scale. My current wheels (18 x 9" and 10") weigh a combined 112.6 lbs, so I will be losing a full 33 lbs of unsprung+rotational weight (not including the weight of the tires, but I don't know the specs).

Kinja'd!!!

This would've been a much better picture if I would've noticed it was blurry. Expect a full write up after COTA this weekend.

I knew right away those were for a Mustang. I've been eyeing them for some time.

What other mods have you done to it?

Koni Yellows, Steeda Sport springs, CAI + tune, Magnaflow catback, Fays2 Watt's link, 1 piece drive shaft, 3.73 gears, 2011+ front brakes, SS brake lines, J&M camber/caster plates, M&W short shifter. I think that's it haha.

O and also a prototype Exedy clutch.

Ok hope you don't mind if I pick your brain a bit as my mustang is still stock and squishy...

Watts link! What made you go that direction instead of an adjustable panhard bar? Does it require much upkeep?

How much negative camber do you usually run? Does it dramatically affect turn in? I typically induce quite a big of push then fix it with the accelerator :D. Do you run different pressures front and rear? Have you compared and all square tire setup to staggered?

What benefits does an aftermarket clutch give you? I thought they were typically just for handling big power.

The adjustable panhard is more of a band-aid than anything. The Watt's link corrects the axle hop problem, and is fantastic. In January I did my first track day with it, and it felt completely changed. I was able to keep the rear in line much easier, and drove the tires off the car. As far as upkeep once you have it installed, they suggest driving it 100 miles then checking to make sure everything is re-torqued. I actually want to drop the adjustment down a hole, but it is kind of a pain in the ass to get the bolt undone again haha.

I believe I have been running -2.0 but that was dialed in a long time ago. Tomorrow I am taking the car for an alignment, and I am going to ask them to mark off a street setting and then a max camber setting. I have no idea how much camber these plates allow, or how much the tires will allow when I get them on there. If all goes well I will be able to play with the camber settings at the track Friday and let you know. I'm terrible at checking/remembering tire pressure, but I normally run the same thing all the way around. I have been driving on a staggered set up, but everyone suggests getting a square set up for serious road racing. So these track wheels are all 18x10's and I'll be running 285's all around.

The aftermarket clutch really hasn't affected anything as far as I can tell haha. Exedy offered it to me for free (including install) so I said sure why not. They put it in and as far as I can tell its working haha. So now I have a back up clutch, and when I eventually supercharge the car we will see how it holds up.

Awesome, thanks for writing all that. Trying to absorb all the stuff I can before I open the floodgates to my wallet.

Couple more things I just thought of: Have you done anything with your brakes (pads, fluid cooling)? I've heard they cook fairly quickly stock. I've been thinking of getting a ducting kit to keep 'em cool.

Did you consider coilovers at all? I'm intrigued by the Kenny Brown kit since he claims the Eibach set is made to his specs as far as spring rate and valving (doesn't mention specific numbers). I know they usually run a little more expensive.

I ended up with the Koni Yellow's off of the suggestion of Sam Strano, who knows a ton about Mustang handling (multiple SCCA National Champ in Solo). That, and the Koni's+springs were much more affordable, and I was in college. I can tell you that they changed the way the car feels more than anything else I have done (not surprising). I never really did any research into coil overs, because honestly I am perfectly fine with my ride height right now. Also, I hardly ever play with the adjustments on the Koni's, normally just set them and forget them because for a while I have been mostly working on the driver mod. I do plan on trying to play around with some settings on Friday though.

For brakes I now run the 2011+ front brakes with Hawk HP+ pads all around. These definitely are much better than what I was doing before (Hawk HPS pads). I have surprisingly never had too much trouble with the brakes, but I believe that is because I never ran on the stock pads, and have ATE Blue/Amber DOT4 brake fluid. I will say that my power steering has gotten heavy before at the end of a session in hot weather, due to the fluid boiling. I replaced the fluid with Redline stuff, and it still does it in the summer.

I would suggest going with shocks/struts/spring or coilovers as your first handling mod though (although new pads+fluid should be done before a track day). And then if you can swing it a Watt's link to help with the axle displacement caused by lowering. I need to read up and try to understand the whole rebound/compression/valving science better, but for right now I am very happy with the Koni's, and unless you have a lot of track experience I bet they will be more than enough for you.

Coincidentally I was reading Vorshlag's build thread and he does a great job explaining the difference between a pan hard and a Watt's link. Check out post #175. Also you will probably lose like 6 hours of your day read through that whole thread. I've been slowly working through it for about a week haha.

Noooo! lol that's the last thing I need. I've been working late a lot lately, but working late is usually half working, half reading about parts, builds, watching youtube vids, etc. I'm starting to think it was a mistake also getting a Miata for more regular track duty. Now there are two platforms I'm attached to.

The bug bites hard.
