So my girlfriend and I saw a VW 181 Thing a few years ago and she loved it. Fully restored, no rust, light yellow paint, white top (like this image below).
I recently mentioned my desire to restore a car in the future and she not-so-subtly suggested a Thing.
I turned to Craigslist in boredom a minute ago and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
I'm not posting for the car...needs work like a project should. I'm sharing this because of the description.
I just can't.

Those fenders... those wheels...
Sometimes, you just can't and that's okay. Regardless of ease or difficulty of fix, it's been... sullied.

He expects you to mail your phone number? He's probably scared of the NSA, and probably wears a tin foil hat.

But it HAVE AN GOOD REGISTRATION so that counts for something, right?

I'm pretty sure some jurisdictions provide AN GOOD REGISTRATION to AN HAM SANDWICH. Not sure that R.I. includes any, just saying.

If there's one thing I've learned from shopping for a bay window van, it's that when an ad for a vintage VW claims no rust, it's only because the parts that did have rust (I.e.the floor) have simply disintegrated.

So you're not serious intressed?

That kind of ad makes me want to drive a screwdriver through my ear, or possibly the sellers.
Those wheels need to be taken out back and shot. The fenders are weird, but not terrible. If it doesn't have any rot and hasn't been modified in ways that are hard/costly to reverse, that is a decent asking price for a thing.
