How about a new Jalopnik blog about bikes?

Not the two-wheels bad type of bikes with motors, but road bikes or mountain-bikes. No fixies though because outside of a track, fixies are damn stupid and dangerous. I know that there are a few bike enthusiasts here on oppo and there are certainly many interesting stories to tell. Plus bikes are gorgeous! Just call the blog Velociropnik or Velotonic or something.

Ooh! My friend has one of those. It's bloody fast and he occasionally uses it as a campus commuter as well as a race bike. And we shoved it into the back of my Integra sedan that one time. It was pretty hilarious.

Good choice! I also have a Caad 10 (though with a different trim) and deliberately chose it over a carbon frame bike. It is hands down the best aluminum bike you can get.

What's wrong with fixies if you use brakes on them? I have 2 brakes on my fixie and don't drive it like a madman/stop for traffic lights

That's gorgeous! Steel frames are pretty damn amazing and I would definitely buy a modern one if they weren't so darn expensive. I've seen a guy in my neighborhood riding around with his maxed out Colnago from the 1980's: Original steel frame and fork but with Dura-Ace, carbon wheels and seat-post.

sounds about the same as me. I am still running Campy C-record from the early 90's. I had carbon wheels laced up to those hubs you cannot beat. I still have a pile of old Dura-ace/600 from that time too.

Haters gonna hate. It's actually true what they say, about the pure feeling and being connected to the road, and its so quiet.

Fixies without brakes are dangerous and illegal in many places. They offer no real advantage over single speed (with brakes that is) and the whole "low maintenance" argument becomes invalid, because skidding puts pressure on your chain and wears out your tires.

With brakes it's fine. Still I see literally no benefit in not having a free-wheel, but as long as it's not illegal I'm cool.

I think of it as the Miata of road bikes because it brought high performance Aluminum back into the spotlight in a way that the Miata brought back the roadster concept. And also, whenever somebody asks what road bike he or she should buy the best answer seems to be CAAD10.

I'm a roadie but feel compelled to say that fixies should be included. They've grown the base of active riders and are a legitimate and valuable part of the cycling community.

Here's my "rest of my life" bike:

2000 Litespeed Tuscany with full Dura-Ace and Mavic Ksyrium SL wheels. I'll ride this as long as I ride.

Is it actually true what they say? Because it sounds pretty subjective to me what constitutes a pure feeling of being connected to the road.

I like the extra resistance you get from not being able to coast, there are some situations were I was really happy to be able to use my legs as an extra 'emergency brake' with people just swerving in front, but I see your point.

I would love a Jalop Bike Blog. Cannondale fan boy here. CAAD10 (Gulf Livery), Flash Carbon 29er and the owner of 2 Lefty's. I'm a happy man.

Any shredders in the Cincinnati area?

What about a single speed? same thing as a fixie just you can stop... should probably just include both, because both are awesome (I myself wants one...badly)

I love single speed bikes and see their benefits, I just don't see any real advantage of fixies. But if everybody would want to have them in a blog, who am I to disagree? What's important for me are races and new technology and of course bike porn!

and I still have this bike (the first bike I ever bought with my own money): 2001 GT Jamie Bestwick signature model, with McNeil bars, 3pcs crank and Demolition Sprocket.

Simplicity, lightness...well that's 2 benefits at least :P. Also you can get a super high quality one for the price of a shitty geared bike..aka, they're cheap (in a lot of cases) I wish someone sold a affordable bamboo bike...that'd be awesome

The CAAD isn't expensive either. I got my 2013 CAAD10 105 for €1,3k.

Nah, I got it, I'm just saying their are also good bikes that aren't nearly that expensive, Miata's are cheap as dirt, so a bike equivilent would have to be surely too
