As some of you may know, I'm deep into my search for a CPO car to replace my 2009 Jetta SE.
I've tossed around a 128i, GTI 4 door, and a Cooper S. You can imagine the amount of time I've spent/wasted on this search. I'm sure that you can…because you're all Opponauts and Jalops. You can also probably imagine my girlfriend getting annoyed every night "Are you really looking at cars on your phone again?" etc. etc. I can't help it! I need to know what's out there, what if I miss the one?
At any rate, I think I've narrowed it down to the GTI. Now that I've started to make that known, I'm now facing things like "Aren't you a little old for a GTI..?" No, what!? I'm 25 for Christ's sake. To combat the age discrimination and to add to my comfort, I'll make sure this thing has black leather interior, nav screen, 6 speed manual.
My problem is with the wheels. I've always hated the Denver/Detroit wheels since they came out. If I do get this car, I'm going to switch to Velos or Omanyt. I'm a sucker for the Omanyt on the R32 and the Velos are pretty freaking good looking. I think both add a little understated class to the car. Omanyt are on the top, Velos on the bottom.
Keeping in mind this won't be stanced and I'm all about OEM, what do you think?

OEM wheels are the only way to go in my eyes.
I'd opt for MkVI Golf R wheels
or MkV Fahrenheit wheels (Charlestons)

I'm not a big fan of either. But you don't like the Denver/Detroit look?
I think the options you have up are too posh and not terribly sporty. I think you need a more aggressive alloy with a GTI. Even just going with the standard Laguna Alloys would be an upgrade:

OEM wheels are so heavy though.
I'm in the same boat as you, kinda. I have a base 2013 and I want the steelies gone. Trouble is, they're actually fairly light and I don't see much else out there that's within the same lb. ballpark and not insanely expensive.
Mercedes wheels have the same bolt pattern (5x112) so you might look at some of theirs. Offsets will not be the same, but sometimes only by a few MM so it won't make a ton of difference. Lugs also have to change.

But to answer your actual question, 1552 snowflakes are pretty damn nice:

I'd have to agree with you on the posh/not all that sporty. Thing is, that's kinda what I'm going for. You don't like the 08 R32 wheels?

Fair enough, but I think I'm going to stick with OEM for the look.

I do like the Golf R ones.

If on a budget...VMR wheels
If not on a budget...Rotiforms

Those are solid-ish... What color will your GTI be? White?

I had been anti-white, but I'm warming up to it. I'm open to most colors, aside from red.

In that case, I really like the Karthoum

Hell yes. I have a 2013 Wolfsburg GTI; broke one of my stock Lagunas on a massive pothole, picked up a full set of VMR V701s for the same cost as one new Laguna, sold the remaining three and broke even.
VMR makes some decent stuff as long as you aren't snobby about it.

I did not know these existed. Jimmies rustled.

I try to stay away from red, yellow, light silver, and white. Black is really my favorite but GTIs do offer a solid blue and charcoal colors. Maybe that's why it is hard to see all that brighteness and chrome flashing coming from the wheel of a GTI with a darker color. If forced to choose I would say the Omanyt. It will at least be a nice contrast, imo.

Fellow GTI owner here (and VW employee; feel free to purchase your new or CPO GTI from me if you're near Virginia!).
I had the Lagunas, now have VMR V701s. I'd recommend them if you're on a smaller budget. Other decent ones (in my opinion of course):
Rotiform BLQs, 3SDM 0.05 or 0.06 (especially 0.06!!!), many others. Some photos for examples:
VMR V701:
BLQ:
3SDM 0.06:
I also would check out Watercooled, Fifteen52, some of the other Rotiforms, etc. There are a lot of good OEM wheels too, as well as Audi and Mercedes wheels with the same pattern. Livery Wheel is an interesting startup as well, but their selection is very limited at this point.

Also, good places to buy stuff for the GTI (it's a black hole of modifying potential.)
ECS Tuning (I'd recommend Euro mirrors; easier to see your blind spots!), FCP Euro, APR, Unitronic, Vagwerks Performance and Coating, AWE, and Black Forest Industries for starters.

I actually saw the Evo SC in person on a MK6 last week at a meet. Sweet wheels.

These are OEM:
I've seen them in different colours, not only black. Check VWVortex.com .

You're never too old for a GTI. I'm 33 and I drive a Golf R.
Also, I don't think MKVI GTI's have leatherette. Plaid cloth or leather.

I'd go OZ Ultraleggera or Superturismo. That's what I was looking at getting when I was looking at GTIs. A black GTI with black Superturismo's just looks mean. They save like 15lbs of unsprung weight per corner. Which will improve the steering feel and make it ride better. I'm on mobile, so here's a thread.

This! Team Dynamics are also pretty lightweight. I like the Pro Race 1.2 as a nice alternative to the Superturismo. 15" version is 13.6 lbs per wheel and they have many other sizes available.

Get a Driver's Edition. They come with leather, nav, and HID and they have Lagunas, not Detroits. I love mine.

As they are from VW Motorsport they're probably not so heavy either. Just go to your VW dealer.

Bought VMR wheels for mine over the Summer. I was adamant on wheels that used the VW center caps and it was these or very expensive OEM. I like 'em.
