Found this shift knob on a Jeep at Pull a Part.

Kinja'd!!!

Stained it. Now it needs to get lacquer'd so it'll be shiny. I know it doesn't fit with my car but I think it's cool anyway, heh.

It's different and unique and that's really all that matters, right?

Me too! If it doesn't look great I'll actually sand it properly and then try again.

Yeah, who knows it may come out pretty nice with the look it has already, a bit of character. Though that puppy sanded would certainly be a head turner.

Might I recommend trying cyanoacrylate as a finishing? It is really great for smaller objects like that. Sounds odd, but it is a great finisher. Or shellack, love me some shellack.

Cyanoacrylate is the adhesive used in many brands of super glue, when properly used it makes a really shiny and nice finish on woods.

Shellack is a common wood finisher. A little bit more involved though.

Huh alright then, how would I exactly use super glue to finish it? Dip it in it?

trying to find an exact guide. Basically you use a brush, apply a coat... then sand it down I'm thinking with a steel wool scrubber, and then apply again, repeat for about 15 coats and let dry. Let me find a link

two threads for you, also I would recommend as highlights to use gloves and also avoid moisture as much as possible.

Instead of all the shiny, sealing finish ideas, why not consider something like Tung oil, something that enhances the wood's appearance, but lets it breath. It's used as an instrument finish, like on a guitar fretboard or a raw body. It's very easy - basically, just rub it on, the buff it off.
