The Mazda 3...is not mine. My father paid it so that I get a reliable dd for school/work and to pay much much less on insurance. I only pay the maintenance, the license plate and the insurance. There, the truth is out, I'm a spoiled rich kid.Now back to the subject.
My father wants to trade in the Mazda 3 '10 and his Altima '08 to get a brand new luxury (or luxury looking) car for about 500$ per month, now that I got my reliable car. My mother wishes that the car isn't long like the Altima but has almost the same space inside as the Altima. It's gonna happen in the next 2 months since he's gonna retire. Keep in mind that the car needs to be automatic, and no crazy hoon machines. He want a car that would represent his age...like a Volvo or maybe a Cadillac. He loves Nissans so far...and hates korean car with passion. The car needs to be reliable and fuel efficient. Any suggestions Oppo?

Oh man, you are lucky. When in doubt, Audi A4, or he could get a Maxima, or whatever the hell those thingies are called.

Regal GS AWD?
Fully loaded for $566 a month before trade-ins. Badge represents an older demographic, but the car would still be nice to drive. He could get a lower trim level if he doesn't want all the racer-bits on the exterior.

ATS

My recommendation would have to be a Volkswagen CC. You can get one of the higher trim levels too. However, the "base" model CC Sport still comes with leather, dual-zone climate, Sat-Nav, etc..

Saw an ad for leasing a new 2014 Audi A6 for $500 a month with only $999 down.
Also, you can probably get an A4 for that money too. Or a Lexus IS, unless that's too small. The Toyota Avalon is a pretty decent car, much better than it ever was now.
I'd also look at... Ford Fusion. A loaded Titanium should definitely be under $500 a month too.

Solid choice. I'd say 3 series, but everyone knows not to own them outside of the warranty.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:09 |

I'm just not a fan of the current 3.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:10 |

Its ok. Ive had my 2014 for a couple months now, and it still makes my fun bits tingle.

500/Mo with what kind of down payment?
Quick pick Buick Verano...now hear me out. They are comfy, but spacious, fuel efficient but plenty of luxury features and can be had well equipped for low 30's.
Tell him to drop me a line if he would like any assistance.

500/month for a lease or finance?
Lexus is offering insane lease deals right now. 425/month 2k drive off on a GS350 F sport in my area.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:20 |

Yes so much this, test driven them and they're more B7 Passat then the B7 Passat if that makes any sense...
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:20 |

He doesn't want a Audi since one of the neighbor has one and he's scared of the maintenance. Maxima...is too long.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:21 |
|
WTH is up with this length requirement?
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:21 |
|
He likes it so far!
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:21 |
|
Oh, How about a Passat, Cc or Jetta? Maintenance is a pain in the ass though.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:21 |

What you're saying is, it feels German, but doesn't have German (un)reliability.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:22 |
|
Let's just say that having 2 cars in a tempo when one of them is really long...really sucks during winter.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:24 |
|
Yeah but more, I think it feels more like what German used to be. Slimmer and less boaty.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:24 |

Another neighbor has a CC, he hates it and all the vw products. He had an accident with his Bug back in his youth. Never again he would consider a VW.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:25 |

That would be finance. He doesn't like Lexus. Too extreme for his taste.

![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:27 |

![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:29 |

![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:30 |

Haha. Sometimes you've got to let things go. It wasn't the Beetles fault that he got in an accident. I don't look at Vw/Audi any different after my accident.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:30 |

He likes the Ford Fusion! He wanted a car that you don't see everyday. That might be it, especially at the price.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:30 |

If he doesn't want an Audi because of maintenance, VW, BMW, and Mercedes are out. And you aren't going to find much of anything that's a "status car" that's smaller than the Altima. Wanting anything that's smaller than the Altima while offering the same interior room is kind of like wanting a TARDIS. Audi's offer some of the best interior space for the length because of the way they cram the engine right in the front of the engine bay. Is the Cadillac ATS shorter than an Altima? Your parents would probably have nightmares dealing with the Cue touch system, though. No real buttons and the touch sensitive crap they're using instead is really finicky and awful. I really cannot think of anything that's shorter than an Altima and would be a "status car" while not being German or Korean. The infiniti's offer decent interior space, I think. I just sat in a few at the auto show yesterday. He might want to look at the G37, which won't be around for that much longer.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:33 |

That's what I told him. He has the old old old mentality dead set. You would give him a brand new full equiped top of the line Hyundai and he would puke his life in it...I think they are good for the value...
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:34 |

He hates the brand...:(

I'd say the Impala but it's bigger and longer..
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:37 |

That was his no.1 choice before I wrote this! How's the maintenance on these?
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:37 |

Same with my father. He was set on Awd. Nothing but it.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:39 |

What are you waiting for ask her out and what will you drive when your parents sell the mazda
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:39 |

I'm not sure of the maintenance but I can't think of any reason why it would be overly bad.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:40 |

He likes the ATS so far and the price seems right. I've never considered the Infiniti G37. I'll tell him right away.

Cadillac CTS. End of discussion.
It's a $539/month lease with only $1500 due at signing. Those trades will go a long way towards paying off the car once the lease is up (I'd sell them separately and hold on to the cash). Not the most fuel efficient, but definitely more efficient than you'd think.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:47 |
|
Thats the issue, leasing. He wants to buy the car.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:47 |

We have a 12 S60 and it has been fine. Nothing scary at all. The only issues we had were a busted hood latch which got fixed for free under warranty. It is so comfy AMD looks great.

I'm going to get flamed to hell but I think this has to go out there. If your dad wants a super comfortable quiet car, he should look at the Lexus ES. My parents just got one to drive to FL in. It is a boring car for me to take through the turns, but man is it comfortable. it is eerily quiet not he inside and the highway miles tick by like nothing.

You have a miata too I have a solution go 120 mph it will probably cut the drive time in half just don't get caught by the police also you two could meet half way
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:53 |

Hahahaha don't worry about getting flamed. I suggested it, but he doesn't like lexus at all.

Thanks for the input! Maybe we have a default winner.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:56 |

Ah, okay. So we're talking a $500/month payment with the trade-ins? The combined KBB values for those trades comes in at about $21k. A CTS at about $50k will be about $29k after trade, and at their current promotion of 1.9%, that comes in at almost exactly $500/month when financing for 60 months. Taxes will add a bit, if you're in a sales tax state.
At the least, have him go test drive one to see if he likes it.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:56 |

True that...I'll invite her to the Rockfest of this year near my town. If she comes, I'll be the happiest guy ever!
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:58 |

They have changed a lot. Worth a test drive at least, even if he 'hates it'.
We love our Passat Wagon but its an 08, if they still made this I would buy it again.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 20:58 |

We will, definitely will. He said he has a week off and will test drive multiple cars from Acura, Volvo, Cadillac, Nissan and Ford.

![]() 03/16/2014 at 21:00 |

Does he care if it's a drivers car, if not 328d. Started no problem left outside in -20* weather. Got over 45 mpg, but I hated it's steering. It held drifts really good though. If he can wait the new c class is coming out and they look really nice.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 21:01 |

What about Malibu, size of the Buick but isn't one.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 21:02 |

Given his affinity toward reliability and FWD Japanese cars, I'd say your father is the direct target demographic for the Lexus ES.
Although personally, I'd consider both of the following
Now both of those violate the long car is looong argument (I fucking love long cars) but both are plenty luxurious, pretty reliable (I think?), American-made, get decent fuel economy (20/30 CTS & 19/31 300) and I think fit the image he's looking for.
Having somewhat recently spent a week with a rental-spec 300 with the Pentastar 3.6, I was quite content with it. So much so that I'd like to drive the AWD & V8 models as well under consideration for future purchase.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 21:03 |

He's not a "driver", more like a point A to B driver + show off. We don't have diesel BMWs here in canada...unless I was uninformed. Benzs...Hum....I wonder if he could afford the maintenance.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 21:05 |

Too bland. He wants to show off with a car that you don't see everyday.

Maintenance Isn't that bad on the base model Germans, bmw pays for your maintenance. You guys get the 328d xdrive, go look at it. It was a great car if it wasn't the steering feel (but that doesn't matter to you). The heated seats and heated steering wheel kicked in right away for those cold Canadian winters. Heater was warm in a minute. I put that car through hell for about 2,000 miles and it never gave up.
![]() 03/16/2014 at 21:08 |

![]() 03/16/2014 at 22:41 |

You're young, you won't regret a relationship in 20 years. You'll be a different person.
Long distance relationships turn you into a husk if you fall in love with a person. When you're in love with someone, they have to be near by. Once the attraction goes and you don't have that "attract", you'll start doubting things. Does she love me? Is she thinking about me? Is she cheating on me cause i'm so far?
Save your money, go live a little. Not only are long distance relationships hard, but they're expensive. Since you're far away, you'll want to make it up by doing expensive activities and etc. You have a lot to learn about your self, don't take any relationship seriously until you are 100%sure of your self....and then some.
Take it from someone who knows.

![]() 03/17/2014 at 07:27 |

For my A4, the thing that has gotten me is repairs that were not under warranty, I don't bring my car to the dealership for maintenance anymore, It saves me a couple grand every year it seems.
![]() 03/17/2014 at 11:39 |
|
Oh sure, I stopped going to the dealer once it was off warranty, but I still followed the maintenance schedule. Only ever had four significant repairs apart from normal wear: bad OXS (replaced under warranty), premature rear rotor wear at 16K (which VW did not replace under warranty - was a bit annoyed about that), belly pan replaced after I ran over something on a dark night that tore it off, and replaced valve cover gaskets. Oh, and the overhead light bulb receptacle developed an intermittent connection. Other than that, just brake pads, tires, fluid changes, and other normal scheduled maintenance.
![]() 03/17/2014 at 11:42 |

Same, the previous owner did not take care of my car. It needed a new clutch, and something to do with over consuming oil.

The down payement would be both the Mazda 3 2010 and the Altima 2008. Unless...it's not considered as a down payement.
