After about 9 hours of detailing over the course of this weekend, I finally got the results I wanted. The car finally feels like it's mine now
After washing
After clay
After polishing
After waxing

Dodge Dart?
And very nice work! How long did that take you to do?

Nice! Through detailing, I was able to find that the previous owner of my car was Blond, liked animal crackers and popcorn, and went through tires like a motherfucker.

Thanks! I think it took me about 9 hours over the course of three days. I washed it Friday, clayed and polished Saturday, and then waxed it today along with shining up the black plastic bits and tires.

Haha thanks! Yes I think you learn more about the previous owner than the car itself

Haha, sometimes good things, and some things that you would rather not know.

I wish I had the patience for that! Is the clay really that useful? I never feel like actually doing that step

Amazing! That polish shot compared to the after wash shot is like night and day.

I think it makes a difference, it picks up a lot of shit you miss washing. It adds a more time to the process, but I think you'll end up with better results

Yeah which is to be expected, glad you were able to get it cleaned up. I got a few questions was 9 hours for the entire car or just the front portion? What did you use?

That was the whole process on the entire car: wash, dry, clay, polish, wax. Wash/dry took about 1, claying about 2, polishing took about 3 because I wanted to take my time and I even did some spots twice, like the fender. I did the waxing today in about 3 hours. It doesn't usually take me that long, and I also got caught in rain on my way to my in-laws house. I thought I could beat the rain and park in their garage, but the rain came earlier than they said it would, so I had to dry it again...
I wrote a post yesterday about it but I couldn't link it because Kinja is being stupid.

I used Griots Garage stuff because my wife got a kit for me for Xmas a few years ago. I used their clay, polish and wax, and their random orbit buffer. The polish I used was their lightest grade, so I probably would have finished sooner if I used a more aggressive polish.

Griots Garage makes some great, albeit expensive, stuff. I was thinking that when I get my car I'd get one of those Orbital sytems from Meguiar's just to save time but those things scare the shit out of me, I feel like I'd burn my finish or paint with it.

Nothing like doing a deep clean on a new car to make it feel like yours. The weather has been warm here so I have been able to clean the car well and clean the floor mats and carpet on tbe miata it feels great to get it clean and get rid of smells and start with a clean slate.

As long you you take your time, use a less-aggressive polish, and the buffer moving you should be alright. There's lots of videos on YouTube about it. Practice on somebody else's car first lol
