50s sports cars are just too fucking cool

It's not fair

They're too awesome

And the best ones are all too expensive to ever own

You're making me feel extra motivated to find a way to afford my favorite car and then keep it for life!

Best time to buy is after they are not new and special to people. I bought a gullwing Merc in the 70's cheap with a broken axle. You want that spot before people all want to find them. Personally I don't think most modern cars will survive as well as the older ones. The materials are practically made to be recycled, not as a robust construction so it will be much harder to restore so much plastic and computer bits when they stop making them. Some of the German cars from the 90's have so many computer issues I doubt they will work later! BMW bragged that there were more computers in the 7 series than the space shuttle or something like that, they need a NASA budget to keep fixing them.

Wow that's crazy you got a Gullwing! Hen did you sell it?

I agree most new cars won't hold up well.

The car I'm obsessed with is the F430 6MT. Other than the E Diff and traction control that car doesn't have a lot of computers. My dad has an F430 F1 so I've been around the car a lot and seen it taken apart. The only issue he has had is with the F1. The rest of the car is pretty simply for something built in the mid 2000s. Not much plastic anywhere. It's all aluminum and leather. It kind of seems like a modern euro version of an American body on frame muscle car from the 60s.

He has an 82 911 SC and he says that other than the damn F1 he thinks the Ferrari is actually easier to maintain. The flat 6 jammed into a tight spot gave him fits for years until he learned how to properly work on it. He took that engine out 3 or 4 times until he got the car running right.

We have the gullwing, several Mercs, my brother and I share some that were my fathers. I have a 930, I used to have a 78 SC. They are pretty easy if you know how of course. I had a Dino but I did sell that one eventually, never a Ferrari family, my brother has an M1 Procar. His friend in France has an MC12, very pretty. We have a few Italian cars, we have a couple Alfas, Lancias, one Bandini, a Bizzarrini.
