This is my dad's old drag car. It's a '73 'Cuda (not a Barracuda). He had a 440 in it for te majority of the time but swapped in a 500-something cubic inch motor before he sold it. It ran 10 flat with both engines because the bigger one was detuned so it wouldn't run 9's. Counter-productive, I know. Anyway, he tried selling it on ebay in the middle of winter one year. No one wants a drag car in PA in December so he ended up selling it for $10k. Right after he spent $30k having an engine built. The car had a fiberglass front clip but had the original body panels to go with it. Lexan windows were in the car and all the original glass except the windshield went with it, too. Sad story, but an awesome car.

Was he bracket racing? That's a good reason to tune a car to hit a certain ET. Maybe the bigger engine was more consistent because it wasn't working as hard?

My uncle had a purple '73 with either the 440 or the 426, he gets pissed to this day that he sold that car. I don't blame him.

Could be 10.0 index but probably an NHRA rules deal. You need to add a decent amount of safety gear once you hit 9's.

It was NHRA and the limit for his class was 10.00. He could have bumped to the next class but didn't want to get his license or alter the car more. I guess the engine would have lasted longer than the 440 but it seems like a $30k waste to me.

If I knew he was going to let it go that cheap, I would have bought it myself! Haha
