Hey Oppo, give me some help with processors here?

Ok, so I've been thinking about picking up F1 2013 for my birthday, but according to canyourunit.com, my processor is too slow to handle it. Thing is, the minimum required processor has 2.4 GHz, while mine has 2.7. The way I've always been told to see it, those little numbers are a processor's "horsepower", so why wouldn't my PC be able to run the game at minimum if my shitty processor beats the other processor?

Possibly relevant info: CYRI also said my PC can't handle Dark Souls for the same reason. That was obviously a lie

Actually relevant info: Recommended processor, v. my shitty processor

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

They kinda look like the same to me, or at least the things with numbers seem like the same. Yes, things with numbers is how far my understanding of computers goes

I can't tell you why, at 2.7 it can't handle it. Rather, I just wanted to say that I read that website's address as "can your unit."
Like "penisland.com."

You should be fine: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Pen…

The one you have isn't much faster than the minimum spec, but in theory, it should work.

The core 2 Duo is based on newer architecture but I looked cpubenchmark.net says your processor should be a bit faster. So I'd guess as long as you've got a good enough video card you should be able to run it.

I wonder if there's a demo I could try out before buying... This kinda seems like they're telling me a car doesn't qualify for a race not because it lacks power, but simply because it has a different engine, like a 150 hp inline four, instead of a 150 hp V4

Back in the day, yes that was easy to do. Pentium and Duo are different generations though, it would be like carb vs fuel injected (grossly simplified). The raw speed technically might be there in the actual processor, but all the stuff around it is too slow. Sorry to bum you out...

If you're ok with it, I would torrent it to see how it runs. If it works then buy it.

Yeah, well, about that... my video card is also kind of crappy. Like, really crappy, it's a GeForce 310, I think, which is about the cheapest you can get from them.

If the Clock speed in Hz is the horsepower, the FSB (Front Side Bus) speed is the Torque.

Your CPU has 2.7GHz clock speed, FSB is 800MHz.

and the example minimum is the:

Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6600

Which has 2.4Ghz Clock speed and a 1066Mhz FSB

Well, doing some searching between those two, i cant really come to any conclusion why you wouldnt be able to. The real question is whats the ram and gpu. Because you might get away with being able to run the game, but it might not run very nicely.

im basing it off this being your processor. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc…

just start comparing some of those specs and see if there is anything noticeable wayyyy off charts.

RAM is a lowly 4 GB, and my GPU is a GeForce 310, which is so cheap Nvidia didn't even bother to put performance information up on their page for it...

Better face it, my PC was budget four years ago, when I bought it, now it's just a wreck.

It could be doable... But you will have to sacrifice video quality. Which isnt always too terrible, unless the game begins to look like minecraft, in which case, then id say its worth it to upgrade.

I just did my build 1.5 years ago, and already im pretty outdated in terms of gpus. Luckily my mobo accepts the new 8 core processors, so go with something future proof like that if you upgrade.

I would probably get something better if there were enough games to justify it, because getting a high end PC, specially if it's built to spec, can cost a lot of money in Brazil. A local store quoted a top notch build at 15 thousand reais last time I checked and that's more money than I've ever had in my life.

yeah it's not really how Core vs Buses work but having a higher Bus speed (or technically, one that is closer to the core speed) should mean having a faster CPU.

the FSB is the path the CPU uses to access the RAM.

In most real world tests your CPU is just as fast as the E6600, so you'll probably still be able to play the game on minimum (most games are GPU intensive rather than CPU intensive)

First thing to realize is frequency (ghz) is only part of processor performance. There is also the through put the chip is capable of transferring to the board, the amount and speed of the cache on the chip, number of cores/parallel potential, and special features supported by the architecture. Your processor may have higher frequency, but probably significantly lower through put/processing power. The fact it lists a Core 2 Duo or X2 5400... the specs don't require much.

Now, likely your processor will be fine unless there is some special feature the processor needs that it is lacking or the developers simply chose to place a specific architecture minimum on the install. More often than not, CPU isn't the choke point for gaming. Graphics card, memory bandwidth/speed, and drive access are the more likely culprits.

Funny, my laptop's running a Core 2 Duo but it's only rated at 2.27GHz.

So, one analogy I can make is that the Pentium is an E36 M3, and the Core 2 Duo is like an E90 335i. Yes, one is an M3, but the newer car will still blow its doors off in a race.

To be more specific, the GHz number (clock speed, or number of clocks per second) you're seeing is how fast the processor runs. Kind of like RPMs, if you want to continue the car analogy. But speed isn't the only measure of a processor's power. Newer processors simply do more in each clock, because they have more computing units. And then there are things that other commentors mentioned, like how the Pentium can't talk to memory (your RAM, where all the data for the game that the processor needs to process is stored) as fast as the Core 2 Duo and the graphics card and so on.

Processors come in different speeds; that's what makes the Core 2 in your laptop cheaper than the Core 2 a research facility might have purchased back in the day.

Hot dang! thats like 6000 USD... However, some people do build systems about that much...

These high end computers are good for more than games though. Do you do a lot of video and photo processing? Heck, it makes converting the top gear files into mp4's soo much faster haha. I havent used my game computer for real games in quite some time. Just beamng here and there.

Good luck, maybe just buy yourself a part at a time, and slowly piece it all together.
