I have a great idea for a business, but would anyone ever really care about it?

I have an idea that is very similar to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . They produce t-shirts, but the community produces the designs. Here's the basic idea.

1) Artist creates design
2) Community votes
3) Most popular designs get printed onto shirts
4) Threadless produces/sells said shirts
5) Artist gets a percentage of the profits.

You get the idea right? Well what if someone did this only with automotive stuff? Taillights, headlights, shift knobs, steering wheels, body kits, spoilers, etc.

Would you support this? Would you vote on things? Would you buy something?

Sorry for lack of details. It's a super rough idea.

That could get pricey for all of those molds.

So it's like an automotive Etsy? Or are you just looking for crowdsourced designs that would be made by one company?

I don't think you can do this economically.

The price of printing shirts is relatively fixed and low. Parts require tooling, and a limited run would be very, very expensive compared to thousands of them. It might work, but only if people were willing to spend say, $800+ on tail lights instead of $2-400 that bigger runs sell at.

Sounds intriguing, but how would you get around manufacturer-specific parts? I imagine you'd need brand-specific and vehicle-specific parts, and we enthusiasts aren't really well known for putting our money where our mouths are...

That's a great idea. You should start small, with some relatively crap artwork, from a friend who doesn't need to get paid. Post a link here, and see how it works.

If you just stuck to shift knobs it would be easier. A lot of things like lights and steering wheels need to be DOT compliant. One offs get incredibly pricy.

Isn't that what For Human Peoples does?

And Blipshift in a way. And I think to be honest alot of websites to some degree.

I'd say the biggest issue would be the fact most items would have to be manufactured for specific vehicles. That fact alone is going to reduce your customer base MASSIVELY for each item.

I'm talking about car parts, not shirts.
