In honor of this weekend's Australian Gran Prix, I am proposing a Formula Oppo Australian GP on GT6. The race will be held on the Bathurst track, as it is in Australia. Please let us know if you are interested. More Details Below
The real Australian GP starts at around 1 AM the following morning, so I am hoping this race will hold us over until then. In the meantime, be sure to let your voice be heard in the real !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! where you can run your fantasy F1 team to victory.

Cars:
While I would like to hold races based on the GT6 Formula 1 chassis, I do understand that this is quite expensive (2,000,000 credits), so I am leaving it up to a vote on what kind of cars you would like to race.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Update : This race will be run with Red Bull Junior chassis (as per the above poll results, and my personal tests), but subsequent F1 races with a corresponding GT6 track will be run with the Formula Gran Turismo chassis (unless of course, that proves to be too difficult for us to handle).
The Red Bull Junior can be won relatively easily as part of the Red Bull X Challenge. If you don't find time to complete this, it is purchasable from the dealership for 200,000 credits.

I'll try to do this as long as I'm not busy. I might be going to do car things but they might not be until later. So yeah I'm in if possible

I should be able to, but I haven't been able to put much time into the game so my inventory is limited.

At the very worst, we could take the Red Bull standard and use ballast and power limiter to adjust.

Don't worry, the Red Bull junior championship is very easy to complete.

Also I'll gladly do a Formula Gran Turismo race. I should go buy mine now and start tuning if it's possible to tune it...

Just going to suggest that trying to race F1 cars at Bathurst is an insane idea. I think cars without downforce would probably provide the most fun. A car like a Miata might even be the best.

being a dick during passing/blocking, etc. will be encouraged.
Excellent.

Can you start the room if I'm not there by 9 on Saturday?
I have some place to be, but I'm hoping I'll be back in time.

Sure!

Will you be allowing tuning or will tuning be prohibited?

It's times like this I wish i had a PS3 or Xbox.

And everybody has to race a Red Bull.

That's the first thing I saw.

I want it to be competitive, but I also want tires and adjustments to be allowed. I do not really want people to be able to just add power by buying stuff.
I don't know a way to make this happen.
Basically, it depends on what cars are going to be raced.

Pleased to see RedBull Juniors topping the poll right now. High downforce with a moderately powerful engine and human-reaction-time-compatible top speed is a LOT of fun.
I have no clue if I'll be able to join in, but we'll see. Saturday night at 7 my time....

Yeah, I've just been testing the RB junior against the Formula Gran Turismo car at Bathurst.
I think for most of the F1 tracks that are on GT6, we will use the F1 cars, but Bathurst is tricky and has a bunch of sudden camber and elevation changes that the F1 car just can't handle, so we will be using the RB Junior.
The more the merrier!

Just turned on GT6. I apparently already did that challenge. Who knew?

Hey are you going to do a review of the Practice and Qualifying for this weekend. I am thinking about doing a live update like I did on the testing again for those that don't have access to TV coverage or anything like that? Maybe we can do something collaborative?
![]() 03/11/2014 at 23:18 |
|
Yeah, I already started it. It's one long post that I update throughout the whole weekend.

What did you have in mind?
![]() 03/11/2014 at 23:46 |
|
If we race the Formula Gran Turismo cars then the only adjustments that can really be done are suspension, downforce, and an oil change. Tires are not affected by prohibiting vehicle tuning.
![]() 03/12/2014 at 00:15 |
|
Okay. I've done some testing, and tuning will be allowed.
Formula Gran Turismo cars will only be raced on a weekend that share a corresponding tack with GT6.
For me, and I'm assuming a few others, the camber of the Bathurst track was a bit too much. Way too much wheel spin, and no runoff areas if you messed up.
![]() 03/12/2014 at 00:31 |
|
haha good call. It's pretty difficult. So what kind of cars will we race then?
![]() 03/12/2014 at 00:46 |

Those Red Bull Juniors
![]() 03/12/2014 at 01:36 |

Cool. I better get to practicing then...

I figured I could link you to the live updates from Friday and Saturday and you could provide a better consensus summary and analysis, then maybe we can talk and give our opinion on what we think how the race will play out?
![]() 03/12/2014 at 15:34 |
|
a bit like a "Jalopnik Live"?
I'm down.

Awesome, I'm looking forward to it, and great that comments are finally back up.
Ok so practice is airing live on NBCSports at 930pm for P1 on thursday friday and 130am for P2. Qualifying is saturday at 200am, and everyone should have access for the race. Do you have Twitter so we can keep in contact during then? Or I can just message you when the live stuff is over, you can then do your summary and maybe we can then talk about what we think is going to happen, write it down then put it up?
![]() 03/12/2014 at 16:06 |
|
I'll be around for everything except P2.
Also, If you want a good lead-in image, use F1 Fanatic , they always have a great set of pictures for each session.

Nice did you see my other post, hopefully we will both be able to edit the post making it way easier for us both to do it.
![]() 03/12/2014 at 16:13 |
|
yeah, If not, I'll just be in the comments.
![]() 03/12/2014 at 21:39 |
|
Are we going to have a qualifier? Would be more in line with who is at the front or back of the starting grid.
![]() 03/12/2014 at 22:12 |
|
I think the practice session will work well enough to keep times. I just wish it would keep them on the board after you leave the track.
If you start the room, do what you feel is best. I probably won't decide completely myself until I open the room.
Also, can people still enter after Quali starts & ends?
![]() 03/12/2014 at 22:23 |
|
Once the qualifier has begun, you cannot enter, unfortunately.
