I got an email from the business school today about a career exploration at Chrysler. The business side and stuff like that. There is a presentation, plant tour, and Q and A session. Should I go? Are these things worth going to for the people that have gone to them?

Just go and make friends with someone in there then you these things would be helpful. Otherwise, it is just a "corporate social responsibility" that they MUST do.

Yeah, you should do that.

If nothing else, you'll at least get enough info/pictures for a Front Page story.

no he won't, no camera phones allowed for non-employees in Chrysler HQ.
(I know from experience!)

GO.
The one time I went to the Chrysler HQ it was awesome.
I looked down to the next floor from hallway and the floor was lined with transmissions and engines. It's a cool place!

Aw.
He could at least talk a bit about what he saw and have some nice pics of the building from the outside.

OK that he can do lol.
I'm still encouraging him to go, I've been in Chrysler's HQ and Ford's. Somehow I've done ad work for Chevy and Ford/Mercury Lincoln, but never made it into the Renaissance Center in Detroit.
I should fix that.

Which plant would you be touring? I'm a total assembly plant nerd, so I'd go just for that.

Why wouldn't you go?
I love plant tours...even stuff like seeing machines make crayons or paper towel rolls is cool. Plus with this it's cars, opportunity to network, etc.
Always ask lots of questions at the Q&A. Your goal should be to stump the HR person who's likely leading it and get them to pass your question and contact info to a manager or engineer. Doesn't always work out, but when it does it's great.

Definitely go. Plant tours are awesome. I had a chance to be in several Chrysler plants and some supplier plants with a previous job. They are very cool to get a tour of. I frequently visited Trenton Engine Plant near Detroit and also got in to Saltillo where they assemble the Hemi's. Plus toured supplier plants for wrist pins and connecting rods, not to mention working in plants that made pistons for my employer. I've never been on a plant tour that hasn't been fascinating.
And Chrysler HQ is impressively big too. We had to go there for training so I got a chance to wander around there. IIRC it is the second biggest building behind the Pentagon in terms of office space. Can't remember if that is in the U.S. or the world. Regardless, I can pretty much guarantee you that it is the biggest building you will ever be in.

Yeah, I driven past it on the highway and it has always looked massive, didnt know it was that big though.

Yeah, the HQ is amazingly huge. Plus in a lot of it there is an open central atrium so you can see just how big it actually is.
I never got a chance to get into a final assembly plant, but that would definitely be worth seeing too. Plus like others have mentioned it is a good chance to network.
