I drove one last night, and liked it quite a bit. What do ya'll think about a base 2013 Buick Encore. The other car I like is the base 2014 Subaru Forester. How is the long term reliability on the Buick. Does anyone on here have one?

Looks Ok, I prefer the Subaru though.

I meant the hot pocket crisper-holder on the back window. Thanks Kinja.

It's most likely a key lock box.

I rather like them. Small for good city driving, good seating position and quite comfortable. It's not exactly for the "youth and sporty" crowd, but for a mid-40's white male, it punches quite a few of my buttons. It could use a stronger engine though, as it is a tad on the slow side.

It hasn't got many favourable reviews here in the U.K. where it is sold as the Vauxhall Mokka.

what don't they like about it?

The boot/trunk isn't all that big, the diesel engine is noisy, not as 'refined' as others on the market, quoted mpg are not as true to real driving.
Whatcar said.
"The Vauxhall Mokka isn't without appeal. However, most rivals have it beaten in almost every area."

Well, to be honest it ticks two of my DON'T LIKE boxes.
One: It's a freaking Opel. I mean, the old ones were/are cool, the newer ones were shit, the new ones are good but nobody cares anymore. GM managed to run the brand into the ground with poor quality control, and this at a time when everybody else was stepping up their game. They also managed to turn a former "cool" brand into a beige-trousers brand. As much as I want GM to turn Opel around, and with their new products such as the Mokka/Encore, Insignia/Regal, Astra/Verano which are absolutely competitive they seem to be on a good path, I still wouldn't want to be seen dead in an Opel!
Two: It's a freakin' CUV! It's a raised Corsa.
Or to explain it to Americans, it's Opel's Fiesta competitor on stilts. Why would anyone want such a vehicle unless their knees and hips have given up and they need the higher seating position to actually get in and out of it? Nobody in their right mind would actually take one off-road!
And yet, it's build quality is O.K., the reliability figures seem quite good, the interiour is something one can live with, etc..... Sheeple seem to be buying these by the truckload. Exactly what GM/Opel need these days.

Ok. I guess the trunk space would be my only issue, as they only offer a gas model in the US.

That or an xv crosstrek are the best cars in it's segment

ah yes, there is that.

Yep, that's the problem with the current Opel/Vauxhall line-up. They are competetive, they are there with the crowd, they are nice cars to live with, it's just that none of them actually wins a comparison test. They usually finish as a well respected second.

I think we Europeans view these Opels quite differently. I wouldn't be caught dead in one. It might be a decent vehicle for my parents in a few years though. They're in their early 60s now.
