!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ago the BMW blew its trans out in front of my friends house one cold night. Well, I got it towed to my brothers house and we got it jacked up and the trans out. Keep in mind neither one of us have ever done trans work, ever. I've never had a trans failure on my 'MERICAN vehicles, and when the A4LD on his 94 explorer died, he had a shop !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

We got the trans out in one night, that wasn't the problem. All of my parts are here. We're ready to put it back in except...... except I don't have the trans .
You see, one of the problems in the failure was a Teflon seal installed on the input shaft wasn't sized properly. This caused it to wear out and fluid to get past, which I believe put constant pressure on the A pack (which controls all forward motion) and burn out the clutches over time.
So I ended up dropping it off at a trans shop that was near my brothers house. Last Saturday, at 9am. I asked them to do 3 things
- install a new Teflon seal
-drill 2 holes to relieve fluid pressure. One is on the A pack piston and one is an orifice on the valve body
-install 1 spring in the valve body
Thats it, thats 3-4 hours of work tops. Now I know they were busy when I dropped it off, and this is a lower priority job. So I called Monday and they said it'd be done Wednesday. Wednesday goes by, I hear nothing. Thursday I call them and they said "Oh we meant to call you, we need the front pump." to which I replied "I told you guys I was putting it back together myself, I just needed the ring and spring installed." I get there Thursday evening and I'm told "we need the front pump to size the Teflon ring." I said "Well I wish you guys told me this, I would have dropped it off Saturday." Friday morning my brother drops the ring off and they told him "this won't take very long at all, I just need this to check the size." Friday evening comes, and I show up. "Uh... Monday." MONDAY! Its been 6 days! 6 days to install a fucking ring and a spring! The guy told me to "call back Monday morning when we open and I'll make sure the guy is working on it." Needless to say, Monday I am picking it up done or not. This ends one of two ways. I either pay them after they finish it, or I take it somewhere else.
So I've been driving the Bronco for the past month and I'd really like to start driving the BMW again since its starting to get nice out. But instead I have this fucking transmission shop jerking me around. All the more reason I am always nervous to use a shop that I don't know.

I've been looking at e39 M5's thinking "hmmm"

That would be badass. Though if you're frustrated with maintaining your 7 series, I imagine the M5 will crank up the pain a few notches. I was considering a e39 540i at one point, but was a little put off about people's posts about its reliability.

I know, this seems like a bad to worse idea. I've been wanting to pick up a 06-07 S60R as a DD (which isn't the pinnacle of reliability either) but M5's are getting so cheap, and my friend just picked up a 00'. He's gonna be the beta tester this time.

How hard is it to install a seal and a spring? Shoulda done it yourself.

Have you ever sized a teflon ring?
Apparently its hard enough to do if my friend fucked it up
and I am not tearing the valve body out of this trans

They don't sell specific rings for these trannies?

they do, and it is, but you have to expand it to get it over the shaft, then it has to shrink down so it clears the front pump hole
