Does this kit appear to have everything I need to rebuild my Qjet? It says it doesn't come with a power valve. Do I need that? !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

I tried to never deal with the Q-jet. Pain in the arse for the performance you get. I think the power jet should be important. But I usually changed to a Holley.

The problem I am having is fitting a carb to my shaker scoop and getting it low enough for my hood to close. I figure since I was given the correct model number carb for my car, it should fit the best.

That link was the most annoying site I have ever been to. Every time I tried to see what you were talking about, it would redirect me. When I closed out the redirect, I took me to another site.

Good luck on the quad I had nothing but problems with the original one on my 68 camaros 327. They are either good or bad. Rebuilt mine 3 times, had a shop do it still couldn't get it to run right. Plucked one off a big block Chevy that had been sitting 25+ years. Ran perfect other than being way to much cfm. Swapped to a edelbrock but probably going to a Holley just for correctness because I'm doing a top end off a Z/28.

I hear you about hood clearance. My Camaro has the same issue (go F-bodies!) but I was able to fit an Edelbrock carb on a Performer (not air gap) intake along with a very low profile air cleaner. I never had to deal with rebuilding a Q-Jet so I'm not sure. I know that older model Holleys were infamous for blowing their power valves but I don't remember anything about Q-Jets.

Not your problem.

It should be fine. I can't see the kit for the bad link, but all I've ever needed to do is gaskets. Just take it slow. Did you get any instructions? There are some very good rebuilders that have some inexpensive books. I could probably send you my Doug Roe book if you promise to send it back later. I'm working on switching my last Qjet car to EFI.

I haven't bought the kit yet, though I will tomorrow. I have heard from multiple sources I should buy a carb book.

There's nothing better than Doug Roe's Rochester Carbs book if you can find it. Amazon for like $15, worth every penny. Greg Banish's performance EFI tuning book is also great and covers a lot of the basics you need to know for general engine operation and tuning even though the method is different with a carb and distributor. I can look at my Rochester book tomorrow and see if there are a few specific pages I cam show you to get through a rebuild. It's really not bad.

Dropbox public folder - look in the 'qjet' subfolder.

You're welcome and good luck! Bonus on the last two pages - a list of the metering rods for when you get to tuning. I believe most of the metering rods can be found on fleabay, etc. I think I have a small jar with a variety of metering rods too.

Awesome! This carb came off a 400 so hopefully stock tuning should be reasonably close to make it not run like crap.
