This gas pedal method is perfect for my wife. Nearly identical minus the shifting part. All the way down or off, no grey area.

I used to work as a driver's assistant in a lumberyard, and one of the older drivers there (he looked like truck drivin Dick Trickle, complete with perpetual cigarette...) used to brag about being able to drive the one gas truck that we had there without using the clutch. Sure enough, I was riding with him one day, and even from a stop, he would get the engine revving up and down, and then on the down swing, he would pop it into gear, and away we would go, no clutch, and no grinding.

Truck drivers do it like that all the time. When you do clutch you have to be careful not to depress it too far or you will activate the clutch brake. When the vehicle is moving, this will wear it out quickly.
