So for a change of pace, instead of me paying for things for my car, it will be paying me!

One of my neighbors does shoots for commercials and the like and asked if he could rent my father's Airstream and my Land Rover for a shoot he is doing next week. I was skeptical at first, but it is hard to turn down good money for such little work and I can put the money towards the work the LR needs. All I need to do is drive the car 40 blocks, park it there with the Airstream behind it so it looks like it towed it there, then pick it up 4-5 hours later. Pictures of the vehicles in question for visualization purposes.

interesting. Its interesting that he needs so specific a vehicle and trailer. Also interesting is that your defender has no hope of pulling that airstream...or not at speeds or safely anyway so it will be a lie, an obvious lie...but oh well.

I'm guessing that's a 28 footer, which means something like 6000-7500 lbs dry and 700 lbs tongue weight. While the D90 is supposed to be able to haul 7700 lbs braked trailer, it can only handle 300 lbs on the tongue. Well, that and the US rating is only 3500 lbs trailer.

Make sure he carries insurance that will cover any damage to the vehicles while in his care. You don't want something to happen and find out you're on the hook for it.

Guy I know had his VW van borrowed for a photo shoot. They vinyl wrapped it to look like a hippy bus, and removed the wrap before returning it. a year later the van was rusting in weird lines around the edge of everything. Turns out when they trimmed the vinyl wrap they used razor blades and cut all the way through the paint and to the metal. Photographer's insurance company paid to have it stripped to bare metal and repainted.

Good point about the insurance I will look into that. Thankfully they won't be using the vehicles at all, just shooting some video in front of them. If they wanted to wrap my LR or even drive it, I would have said no. Just not worth the hassle for me.

Good eye, it is a 28ft'er but closer to 9000 lbs with all the stuff inside. And it's not a Defender it's the Defender's much older brother the Series 3, a '72. So the towing and tongue weight specs are even farther from what is needed to tow the trailer. We will use my dad's truck (in the first picture) to tow the airstream there and then just park the LR in front as if it did the towing.

I don't think he was specifically looking for that truck/trailer combo, he said he drives by the Airstream all the time and using it for a shoot he has coming up just popped into his head. As for the LR, he wanted to have a vintage convertible truck as the towing rig and this is my only ragtop, the others are hardtop.

From the sound of it, this is not a shoot that many car people would come across, it's some latin musician doing an interview.

Thanks! Now I just need to figure out what to invest the money in car wise. Need to thank the LR for making me a little cash back.
