£6500 now. For a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . If I had anything approaching that sort of money it'd be in my garage right now.

I wonder if it would be cheaper to get a 4 cylinder MBG and throw an LS drivetrain in it...

Quite probably in the States, but over here in the UK I can't think of a single LS-engined car that sold in any appreciable numbers.
The Rover V8 is our LS :)
Oh, the other consideration would be weight. The original B-Series I4 weighed 152kg fully dressed, the Rover V8 weighs 170kg fully dressed and the lightest LS I can find (LS2) weighs 204kg fully dressed.
Not insurmountable by any means, but it would most likely affect the chassis balance in such a light car without some intensive redistribution of weight.

Want Want Want. but I dont have a spare space, nor do I live in the UK...

That scares me, a lot. 90bhp from the standard 1.8 are enough to poke it sideways at the slightest provocation.

It'd be mental :) I'd hope that there are some corresponding suspension modifications behind the wider tyres.
Still going to be very slideways most of the time.

Not to mention some seriously beefed up brakes, the standard ones are utterly useless...

*Ponders*
Very close to the stat spread I'll have on the Ranchero -p/w, balance, overall kerb, etc.. Probably a good thing I have a longer wheelbase.

That's going to be a monster :)

I met someone who i think did either a v8 swap in one of them (fairly certain it was mg) or a staaag. massive cooling issues/ the man was insane. sounded like it would have been great fun to drive though.

Hmmm, I can see how cooling could be a problem. Big fat radiator should help with that though :)
Stags are excellent too. I've wanted one of them for a while as well. Either a Rover V8 swapped one, or if I'm feeling ambitious one with the original V8 with Dolomite Sprint 16v heads adapted to it.

Be wary of old english electronics... but other than that, they are pretty god damn glorious. Are you UK or American?
![]() 03/05/2014 at 16:37 |

UK, hence the Rover V8 rather than an LS :) you?
I've had my share of rooting through old English electronics. Admittedly, there's not all that much electrics in my Spitfire, but I've pulled it all apart at the moment for restoration. So many corroded bullet connectors :)

UK, i always use car and classic if i'm looking stuff up, although you dont get many modified. But i'm a volvo amazon fan so basically so few electronics, its not often an issue. Now rust... Not a fan.

I use Car and Classic as well. Tons of great cars on there, although they also tend to be one the nicer/more expensive side of the spectrum.
As soon as I've got a bit of spare cash I'll be paying them a lot more attention :)
Also, Amazons are excellent :)

Not bad for a first car :P (parents hate it) but i do eventually want to get a p1800ES... and V8 swap. Little while off though...

One of the safest classics you can get. That's something :)
Ooh, if you can sandwich the 4.4l Yamaha V8 from an XC90 in there I think you might win everything.

yeah, i would like to put a turboed b230 in at some point, but thats a while off with the insurance.
![]() 03/05/2014 at 17:33 |
|
True. I haven't check what it's going to be like for my 2.5l Spitfire. I think it's best to leave it until the time comes :)
A turbo B230 would be excellent. If you can find 240 running gear then it should bolt straight up for RWD.
![]() 03/05/2014 at 17:54 |

its already RWD so a minorly altered prop shaft. But you got me thinking: An AWD turbo amazon... you can only dream. As for insurance, good luck. mine was surprisingly cheap for an RWD 2.0l with sports exhaust and alloy wheels but still a fortune.

I'm 23 now, and might be 24 by the time it's finished. It gets a hell of a lot cheaper by this stage, especially as I've been driving since I was 17.
So no need for 240 running gear, so long as the Amazon diff can handle the torque. You might need a 240 gearbox to mate up to the B230 bellhousing pattern though. It's a tough old 5-speed, so it'd probably be a good idea regardless :)
An AWD turbo Amazon would be mental :) I'll race you in one of my many project ideas: a Lancia Beta HPE with Delta Integrale running gear. A Beta Integrale if you will.
